Job Responsibilities

• Responsible for the preparation and upkeep of teaching resources, arrangement, appearance and learning environment of the classroom.
• Supervise and guide the primary children with their homework
• Plan and deliver activities, lesson and programmes, such as character development programmes in a creative and interesting manner to encourage students’ participation
• Organise enrichment workshops that can help promote the overall development of the children
• Curate creative activities to develop skills and expand mindsets in the areas of innovation, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Engage children in outdoor play that serves to build psychomotor skills
• Daily administration - attendance, collection of forms, health and safety, etc.
• Ensure the safety and wellbeing of the students.
• Liaise with parents and guardians regarding children’s learning progress and behaviour in class

Other Requirements

• Possess a Polytechnic Diploma in relevant discipline or WSQ Student Care certification
• At least 2 years of experience in teaching children, preferably at primary level
• Prior work experience with children with special needs is an added advantage
• A team player with good communication and classroom management skills
• Patient and passionate about teaching children with special needs
• Good understanding in primary school curriculum

The Role

Key Responsibilities

Teaching & Learning

• Manage an effective, orderly and safe learning environment.
• Plan and deliver a curriculum for the class according to the agreed termly plan, and in accordance with the agreed principles and practice of timetabling of the year group and the school, as laid down in the Staff Handbook; differentiate that delivery according to the abilities and learning strategies of individual students.

Planning & Development

• Contribute as a team member to the planning of the annual and termly curriculum for the year group according to the school’s published schemes of work in each subject.
• Contribute to the planning and implementation of curricular and other initiatives according to the School’s Calendar.
• Contribute to the maintenance and development of the curriculum by being a member of a vertical curriculum team across Key Stages One and Two.
• Participate in the Review and Development process to personalise professional learning and maintain an accurate and up to date record of all Professional Development opportunities.
• Take part in relevant development activities to enhance ongoing professional skills, knowledge and understanding including professional reflection and evaluation.
• Demonstrate a commitment to professional development, by using up to 1 hour of PPA time per term to peer observe colleagues and share good practice, providing HOY/HOLS with a written professional reflection.
• Support colleagues in developing their professional practice within class/unit.
• Support colleagues in the Review and Development and Performance Management processes with TLAs and STLAs in accordance with the agreed school procedures.

Assessment, Recording & Reporting

• Keep detailed records of plans, and of achievements of individual students; developing, in conjunction with the year group, standardised forms of assessment and record keeping.
• Report to parents in accordance with the school’s reporting policy as laid down in the Staff Handbook.

Communication & Liaison

• Follow the School’s policies and procedures with regard to discipline and behaviour, daily routines, duties, homework, leave of absence, and field study trips, as laid down in the Staff Handbook.
• Fulfill supervision role during lunches and break times.
• Participate in Co-Curricular Activities (CCAs) across the school at a level agreed with the Head of Junior School.
• Embrace and lead on the school’s commitment to creating a diverse and inclusive environment.
• Be responsible for reporting any concerns about a child to the Designated Safeguarding Lead.

Job Description

• Support teachers in lesson preparation and the implementation of lesson plan (eg. able to conduct small group teaching)
• Support teachers to achieve and monitor students’ individualised goals and objectives
• Assist students in areas of self-care and grooming
• Support teachers in collecting data on behaviour and progress of students, whenever necessary
• Collaborate and support teachers in classroom management matters such as planning and implementing student’s behaviour plans, lesson progress, etc
• Liaise with external stakeholders (including families/caregivers and community partners) to facilitate administrative processes
• Ensure the well-being and safety of the students in School

Job Requirement

• Possess at least a Diploma (preferably in Early Childhood Care & Education)
• Prior experience as a Teacher Aide or experience in teaching would be an added advantage

• Desire to learn about autism and the patience to teach special needs students
• Passion to help special needs students maximise their talents and potential
• Strong verbal and written communication skills in English
