Key Responsibilities

Teaching & Learning

• Manage an effective, orderly and safe learning environment.

Planning & Development

• Review already formulated Schemes of Work for Year 3 to Year 6 as appropriate and advising and supporting staff on Chinese language development for their students.
• Plan the annual, termly and weekly curriculum for each year group in the Junior School according to those Schemes of Work.
• Contribute to the planning and implementation of curricular and other initiatives according to the School’s calendar.
• Contribute to individual and team tasks and targets for the Junior School Improvement Plan and the School’s Self Evaluation Form(SEF).
• Make a positive contribution to the development of the Junior School.
• Participate in the Review and Development process to personalise professional learning and maintain an accurate and up-to-date record of all Professional Development opportunities.
• Attend relevant professional development sessions to enhance ongoing professional skills and knowledge.
• As part of Tanglin’s commitment to professional development, use 60 minutes of non-contact time per term to peer observe colleagues and provide Head of Chinese with a brief written update.

Assessment, Recording & Reporting

• Keep detailed records of plans and of achievements of individual students, developing standardised forms of assessment and record keeping.
• Report to parents in accordance with the school’s reporting policy as laid down in the Staff Handbook.
• Be responsible for reporting any concerns about a child to the Designated Safeguarding Lead.

Pastoral and Co-Curricular

• Follow the School’s policies and procedures with regard to discipline and behaviour, daily routines, duties, homework, leave of absence, and visits, as laid down in the Staff Handbook.
• Fulfil an active supervision role during lunches and break times.
• Fulfil CCA commitment.

Communication and Liaison

We are looking for an enthusiastic, highly qualified and committed Geography Teacher, with an outstanding track record of success. The successful appointee will join the Geography department and teach the subject throughout the Senior School (Grades 6 to 12). All members of staff are expected to be involved in pastoral care within the school community, usually in the role of form tutor, and also to contribute actively to the extra-curricular life of the School.

Teaching, learning & assessment

• Demonstrate passion for the subject and strive to engender the same in students.
• Plan and deliver lessons that inspire, motivate and challenge students whilst ensuring that they are fully prepared for assessment tasks and are able to make the progress expected of them.

• Implement classroom strategies prescribed by the Individual Needs Department for students with an Individual Needs Plan (INP).
• Adopt a positive and developmental approach to academic monitoring activities such as lesson observations, work scrutiny, learning walks and student voice.
• Assess, record and report on the attainment, effort and conduct of students in line with School and departmental assessment policies and procedures.
• Assist in the development of departmental schemes of work and resources.
• Maintain accurate records of student attendance through the School’s attendance system.
• Fulfil a teaching commitment in line with the School policy and allocation.

Pastoral care

• Always consider students’ welfare and best interests, striving to promote both at all times.
• Support the strong pastoral emphasis within NLCS (Singapore) as a tutor, including teaching PSE. Manage a lively, enthusiastic, orderly and safe learning environment fulfilling the responsibilities of that position.
• Develop strong relationships with students, providing guidance and support in academic, pastoral and enrichment matters.
• Liaise with relevant colleagues with a focus on supporting student’s academic and personal development.
• Maintain regular and positive relationships with parents with a focus on supporting their child(ren)’s academic and personal development; the spirit of communication with home should be personal and individual.
• Liaise with and support the Pastoral Leadership team in all matters pertaining to pastoral well-being, responsibility and strategy.
• Working alongside the Senior School Management Team to contribute to academic, pastoral and enrichment activities that broaden students’ experiences and enhance the general life of the school.
• Follow the school’s policies and procedures with regard to pastoral provision.

Enrichment

• Support the School’s academic enrichment programme by contributing to the McCabe Lecture series, supporting student-led academic societies and delivering taught enrichment sessions.
• Attend School events and activities as directed by the Principal and voluntarily support events such as trips, Arts Festival events, sports fixtures (home and away) and musical performances by students, after school and at weekends.
• Deliver co-curricular activities in line with School policy.
• Support the House Competition by attending events and encouraging student participation.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

• Able to commit on Saturdays on a regular basis for execution of relevant programmes
• Develop and execute lesson plans for both individual and small group physical classes in accordance with organisation’s service delivery standards
• Plan and execute tailored group programmes for children with special and learning needs
• Adapt intervention strategies and developmentally appropriate teaching materials and resources to cater to children of varied learning abilities, including those in primary school levels, to improve learning outcomes beyond academic goals.
• Conduct screening and assessments to identify needs, track and evaluate learning progress of clients, and develop appropriate strategies to optimise development potential of the clients.
• Partner with caregivers and relevant stakeholders to enhance learning experiences, support learning progress and achieve personalised goal
• Document, maintain and report data and progress in client management system
• Provide administrative, logistical and other necessary support for effective implementation of relevant programmes and services
• Perform any other ad-hoc duties assigned by supervisor(s).

REQUIREMENTS:

• Minimum a Diploma in Early Childhood Education / Special Education or related educational fields. A Bachelor's Degree / Master’s degree in Teaching will be added advantage.
• Minimum 2 to 3 years of relevant working experience in a special education setting
• Experience working with children aged 3 to 12 years old with special needs and a wide range of multiple disabilities
• Passionate about working with children and their families
• Creative and innovative in engagement of children with diverse profiles and needs.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Early Intervention for Children (EIC) Services helps equip children with motor, communication, social, self-help and cognitive skills. THK EIC involves structuring classes around small groups encompassing early childhood special education, social work and therapy support services to stimulate their adaptive functioning and school readiness skills.

Class Engagement:

• Plan, prepare and carry out an effective routine-based intervention programme for the class to meet every child's IEP
• Work towards functional outcomes of the child through child engagement, embedding of naturalistic strategies, differentiation of prompts, behavioural intervention techniques
• Carry out recommended therapeutic strategies as part of the transdisciplinary team
• Prepare age appropriate teaching resources based on children's interest
• Maintain a respectful learning environment for the children with the practice of positive discipline by treating all children with dignity and respect and allow for individual differences
• Be familiar with and adhere to the programme policies, health and safety regulations and emergency procedures and be ready to implement these if necessary

Working in Teams:
