Centre for the Applications of Teaching & Learning Analytics for Students (ATLAS) is leveraging on learning analytics to improve teaching and learning as part of Education Strategy 2025. This position is similar in nature to a business analyst but for advancing the use of data for teaching and learning purposes. The position is critical for developing a communication plan to get faculty and students buy-in on the learning analytics goals of the university. He or she would also be responsible for gathering faculty, students and schools’ teaching and learning needs, and translating the needs into meaningful learning analytics solutions.

He or she would be working with the director and the data scientists to enhance data literacy of faculty and students. In addition, he or she is expected to support the administration of key systems such as Denodo and Dataiku in compliance with the data and AI governance policy of the university.

Responsibilities

Communication, engagement and collaboration opportunities

• Conceptualise and execute a communication plan for learning analytics with various units in the university

• Seek opportunities to collaborate with internal and external parties to achieve the learning analytics goals

• Engage students and support faculty champions to increase acceptance and adoption of learning analytics

• Communicate with end-users and analyse their business needs

• Manage and maintain the department website

Data management

• Support the data engineer in handling data request

• Manage the data science machine learning platform

• Build the data exploration tool to support data requester in identiying potential bias and discrimination in the requested datasets.

Project Management

• Provide support for learning analytics projects by helping to build dashboards and communications

Requirements

• Bachelor degree in Business Analytics or Data Science and related fields

• At least two years of experience as a business analyst or experiences working on data related project

• Prior experience working in an university setting is highly preferred

• Proficient in statistics, machine learning approaches and AI approaches including discriminative and generative

• Familiar with various data governance framework issued by PDPA

• Strong communication and networking skills

• Strong ability in translating user needs into a data science problem

• Strong understanding of data science or analytics and governance

• Strong technical skills such as python programming, system administration

• Proficient in developing dashboards and other visualization tools such as Qliksense and Power BI

Act as a team member, providing essential support to the Data Services Lead in the day-to-day operations of the Data Services team. This support aims to ensure the consistent delivery of high-quality services, uninterrupted system uptime, and round-the-clock accessibility of data services to support the University's diverse business systems.

Responsibilities:

• Act as the Subject Matter Expert for data services-related products (Oracle, MSSQL, MySQL, WebLogic, WebSphere, JBoss, IIS, ASP.NET)

• Manage daily BAU operation of database and middleware (DB&MW) related services.

• Provide Level 2/3 support for DB&MW service-related queries.

• Monitor DB&MW services availability and performance; proactively fine-tune its configurations to meet RTO.

• Monitor and plan the capacity to meet the demands of the application workload.

• Monitor and plan the backup schedules to meet RPO and comply with the data retention policy.

• Create and maintain documentation of standard operating procedures (SOPs) for DB&MW administration, contributing to the knowledge base and facilitating knowledge transfer.

• Create and implement automation scripts using tools such as PowerShell, Ansible, Python, etc to streamline deployment processes and reduce manual intervention.

• Review and implement security best practices and apply regular ad-hoc security patches to ensure compliance with IT security policy.

• Coordinate/Support with the application support teams for scheduled downtime such as DB&MW patching and upgrade.

• Perform incident escalation in accordance with escalation procedures.

• Coordinate with other functional teams and product support in incident handling, and ensure incidents are resolved or workaround within stipulated SLAs.

• Provide input and finding for root-cause analysis.

Implementation of IT Initiatives and Solutions

• Provide consultancy on data infra design for new systems.

• Lead and drive data services initiatives and manage project deliverables.

• Identify and drive the optimal solution for NTU and manage the implementation of these solutions.

• Lead migration projects to transition applications to new DB&MW platforms, ensuring smooth transitions and minimal impact on operations.

Requirements:

• A recognized degree in IT, Computer Science or related fields

• Hand-on technical skills and know-how in administering database products (e.g., Oracle, MSSQL, MySQL database, and PostgreSQL) and related high availability technologies (e.g. RAC, Data Guard, AG). 

• Hands-on technical skills and know-how in administering middleware products (e.g., WebLogic, WebSphere, JBoss, IIS, ASP etc). 

• At least 6 years of hands-on experience in database and middleware administration in an enterprise or campus environment. 

• Experience in Windows, and Linux variants, preferably Red Hat and Ubuntu. 

• Possess relevant DevOps skillset and scripting skills for system automation, e.g., PowerShell, Ansible, Python etc. 

• Familiar with high-availability technologies and solutions 

• Proven track record of troubleshooting and resolving complex technical issues.  

• Experience in system, database and application performance tuning. 

• Experience in capacity planning, availability management and business continuity management

The Office of Academic Services (OAS) plays a key role in advancing the University’s educational goals through implementing and administering the academic policies established by the University’s academic body. OAS provides academic services for students from the time of their matriculation to their graduation and are committed to integrity, strong governance, and high standards of professionalism in our work to establish success for all NTU students.

Being part of a team that manages students’ assessment, progression and award, the key responsibilities of the role are as follows:

Responsibilities

• Custodian for assessment/result records for undergraduate students.

• Coordinate within the office and with Schools/Colleges/Institutions to ensure timely and accurate capture of records arising from various activities according to timelines and guidelines set, as well as in compliance with policies and procedures.

• Manage the examination system and mark entry system, and processes for undergraduate students.

• Oversee the setup of relevant database for mark entry and marks processing, where students’ progress and performance are determined and captured at the end of every semester.

• Provide advice to the Schools/Colleges/Institutions for special cases in compliance with policies and procedures, and ensure appropriate approvals are obtained for exceptional cases.

• Manage the release of exam results, academic termination and related appeals, to ensure students receive their results according to the scheduled timeline and all appeals are properly handled.

• Prepare examination statistics for reporting to the University management.

• Supports data requests and gatekeeping, so as to ensure compliance with NTU student personal data protection and the Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA).

• Work with system developers to ensure process and system readiness for new initiatives, updates of curriculum, process enhancement and automation.

• Spearhead/Participate in cross-team projects within OAS and be a change agent in fostering the collaborative culture in OAS.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university.

• Minimum 3-5 years of supervisory experience, preferably in academic services in the tertiary education sector.

• Proficient in office IT applications and Microsoft Office suite of application.

• Working knowledge of SQL will be an added advantage.

• Experience and exposure to Robotic Process Automation (RPA) will be an added advantage.
