What will you be doing?
We are looking for a driven, passionate and resourceful Deputy Editor to help drive news coverage and market reporting expertise on a daily publication covering Asian biofuels markets. This is an excellent opportunity for an analytical, inquisitive, numerate and literate individual to develop their leadership skills in a rapidly evolving market.
You will have a passion for understanding how complex systems work and will relish the prospect of developing your skills in a role that combines data-driven analysis with traditional relationship-based reporting.
Your role will involve supporting the Singapore-based Editor in driving and developing news coverage in a busy team and assessing prices – including Argus’ key daily price assessments for biofuels in Asia. You will also take responsibility for ensuring the global assessment methodology is followed and updated as markets evolve. You will lead consultations with market participants where necessary and are the first point of contact for any queries regarding pricing and methodology.
You will work closely with other reporters, senior reporters, editors and other teams at Argus. We will provide you with training and support for you to develop an in-depth knowledge of the markets. In-house training courses are regularly provided on technical skills as well as content-related courses, and new joiners are also provided with extensive training resources.
- Assist in producing a daily market report with price assessments, market news and analysis.
- Engage with the industry to ensure a close understanding of market developments to ensure both methodology and the broader report remain relevant.
- Work closely with the Editor to oversee methodology relevant to coverage, which includes timely communication of needed changes, additions or deletions.
- Support the Editor in guiding, training, managing and motivating a team of reporters.
- Be rigorous in applying the methodology and internal compliance processes.
- Following house style, contribute high-quality and original copy to the report and the online news service,
- Help to build and curate data sets that help explain market dynamics.
- Attend meetings, conferences, and industry events to build contacts, report on news and represent Argus in the industry.

What we’re looking for in you
- An articulate graduate with a strong degree.
- Successful track record in price reporting with solid understanding of how to apply price methodologies when assessing commodities prices.
- Background in biofuels markets preferred but not essential.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to network and build contacts with industry executives and internally.
- Demonstrated leadership skills, including mentoring junior employees.
- A proven track record of setting high editorial standards in interactions with both editors and reporting teams.
- Experience in writing and editing market-relevant news, market commentary and analysis with the ability to meet tight deadlines.
- Ability to use data to generate stories and analysis using Excel.
- A strong understanding of market supply and demand dynamics in commodities.

Travel
