Business Need / Purpose of Role:
The Project Engineer will be responsible for overseeing the design, development, integration, and optimization of electrical and control systems onboard drillships and semisubmersible drilling units. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of complex engineering disciplines, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Electrical Power Systems: Design, analyze, and optimize electrical power generation, distribution, and storage systems for offshore drilling units. Ensure compliance with safety standards, reliability criteria, and operational requirements.
- Control Systems: Develop and implement advanced control strategies, algorithms, and interfaces for monitoring and managing drilling operations, equipment performance, and safety systems. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate control solutions into existing or new platforms.
- Dynamic Positioning Systems (DPS): Provide expertise in the design, configuration, and troubleshooting of DPS to ensure precise vessel positioning, stability, and maneuverability during drilling operations. Conduct system simulations, performance assessments, and risk analyses.
- Drilling Control Systems: Oversee the engineering, testing, and commissioning of drilling control systems, including Blowout Preventers (BOP), mud pumps, choke systems, and associated components. Ensure seamless integration with other onboard systems and compliance with regulatory standards.
- Technical Leadership: Lead multidisciplinary engineering teams, providing guidance, mentorship, and technical expertise in electrical and control system design, implementation, and optimization. Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure adherence to industry regulations, classification society standards, and international maritime guidelines for electrical and control systems. Coordinate with regulatory agencies, participate in audits, and maintain compliance documentation.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with internal departments, external vendors, and industry partners to align project objectives, resolve technical challenges, and facilitate knowledge sharing. Communicate effectively with senior management, clients, and stakeholders to provide updates, recommendations, and insights.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems, or related field; Master’s degree or professional certifications (e.g., PE, PMP) preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of specialized experience in electrical power systems, control systems, dynamic positioning, and drilling control systems for offshore drilling units.
- Strong knowledge of industry standards, regulatory requirements, and best practices related to offshore oil and gas operations.
- Proficiency in engineering software tools (e.g., ETAP, MATLAB, Simulink) and control system platforms (e.g., PLC, SCADA, DCS).
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Exceptional communication, leadership, and interpersonal abilities.
