General Counsel & Head of Risk and Compliance, APAC
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Serve as the head of professional team composed of legal, compliance and risk management professionals to provide Regional/Country Management and various business lines as well as other functional departments with solid support and assistance in a full range of legal, compliance and risk affairs;
- Act as primary legal advisor to Regional/Country Management, business line leaders and other managerial staff on matters of strategic importance, commercial significance or other key concerns, lead the Legal team to carry out legal research and analysis and provide professional legal opinion on legal issues identified, and organize and guide business lines and other stakeholders to look for and formulate pragmatic solutions to legal problems; contact, cooperate and coordinate with legal teams of overseas offices in handling cross-border legal affairs, work with and manage external legal counsels and other relevant service providers and control outsourcing budget; act as legal counsel of the company in negotiation on commercial contracts, represent the company in arbitration and litigation, provide internal legal training;
- Implement the uniform ethics and compliance regime of the Group, formulate rules of implementation in light of/adapted to local conditions while maintaining integrity of the Group policy, communicate with Group Compliance team regarding status of compliance of the Region, compliance issues and problems as well as local conditions that may affect enforcement of the compliance requirements and propose solutions, actions and measures; advise Management and business lines and other functional departments on Group compliance policy and ethics issues; lead investigations on ethics violation incidents and manage complaints from clients or third parties;
- Monitor and ensure implementation of Group and Regional compliance policies in daily operations and collate compliance data for submission to Group compliance for analysis; provide compliance training and lead annual compliance review for all employees across the Region; act as window to communicate with clients, government authority and other external stake holders on important and sensitive compliance issues;
- Manage and maintain the Group risk data register and update system and monitor, record, compile and analyse risk categories and data identified from daily operation; propose risk mitigation and prevention measures to Group compliance and Regional Management;
- Act as Advisor, contact point and intermediary in communications and interaction with regulatory authorities;
- Handle and manage complaints and claim from clients and other stakeholders such as factories and other parties in the commerce chain to safeguard and maximise the company’s interest in dispute resolution.
Job Requirements:
- Holder of law degree from reputable law schools;
- Minimum 5 years PQE in legal/risk and/or compliance fields in multinational companies, top tier international law firms a must;
- Admission to the Singapore Bar is required, with other common law bar qualification a plus;
- Ability to work under pressure and time constraint;
- Good legal sense and business acumen;
- Team player and good at working, communicating and coordinating with varied stakeholders;
- Good team leader.
