Manufacturing Engineer (Machining)

This position reports to the Technical Manager and is responsible to provide technical support to the machine shop and subcontract vendors on complex machining methods for both Premier Hytemp Singapore and Malaysia. Technical support may involve design tooling, fixtures, and machining methods for complex features and new product qualifications. The Manufacturing engineer is responsible to lead acquisition and implementation of latest technology (machines) to improve capability and efficiency.

Responsibilities

• Evaluation of complex machine drawings for manufacturing
• Propose and implement tooling & fixtures for machining of complex features
• Support Manufacturing team on new product qualifications and ensure manufacturing is achieving most optimized and competitive hours
• He or she must have strong knowledge on CNC machining process with strong understanding and capability to design fixture or use on best tooling to achieve optimized and competitive machining capability
• Work with Procurement team to develop strategic sub-con machining supplier
• Source and develop new relevant and good machining vendors to company’s approved vendor list
• Provide technical guidance and ensure supplier passes first article approvals
• Involved in daily MRB (Material Review Board) meeting to provide technical input for jobs when non-conformance occurs
• Continuously seek and work on cost savings and new customer development projects
• Initiate and lead continuous improvement projects

Requirements and Qualifications

• Minimum Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or related field with at least 5+ years of relevant experience
• Candidate should have a strong background in CNC machine shop environment
• Exposure to machining of complex parts for oil & gas equipment is preferred

Purpose and Scope

• Provide performance and process expertise and operational excellence in Energy & Utilities assets (Cogen Power plant, Demin Water and Steam production, Boiler etc) management to ensure good plant availability, reliability and optimization.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

• Provide technical and operation insight to support in plant improvement projects and new energy and utilities project including process engineering review, calculations for mass/energy balances, equipment sizing, key equipment selection, material compatibility considerations and other duties assigned for process and engineering evaluation.

Qualifications & Experience

As a Marine Design Engineer, you will own engineering responsibilities for all Cavotec’s shipboard shore power retrofit projects. Type of retrofit can be either turnkey, repair and upgrading. Project execution takes place either during voyage or at shipyards, or at times, both.

Shore power/ HVSC/ Alternative Maritime Power (AMP)/ Cold-ironing system enables vessels to connect to shore power while at berth, hence minimizing emissions and noises from the ship’s auxiliary engines. The retrofitted system will be integrated with ship’s existing electrical distribution and necessary instrumentation and monitoring systems.

You will ensure the system design is in accordance with contract specifications, Class rules, and all applicable ship-type and port-specific regulations. You will also participate in the selection of equipment suppliers and service providers for all necessary 3rd party activities. You will have close interactions across all departments of the organization.

• Lead the design of shore power system retrofit solutions on vessels.

Reporting to the Senior Finance Manager, this role is responsible for supporting the Finance department in various functions including accounts receivable (managing credit risk and ensuring timely payment from our customer, cashiering and accounts payable.
