Principal Responsibilities

HSBC is accelerating its research effort on developing advanced computing methods including innovative classical, hybrid and quantum algorithms with a focus on applications within Financial Services. The successful candidate will participate in ongoing academic and business relevant research projects and set new research directions in advanced computing with the aim to advance the field and provide valuable insights and both mid-term and long-term solutions to the business.

Publication of research results in peer reviewed journals and patent submission is strongly encouraged. As well as the research focus, this role will also be involved in contributing to the strategic direction of the bank and leading collaborative engagements with government, industry and university.

This role is part of the Emerging Technologies team and will offer the candidate an incredible opportunity to collaborate and find commercially viable applications for advanced computing architectures ranging from GPU-based physics inspired solvers to state-of-the-art quantum processors. The candidate will be able to rapidly establish themselves as a quantum computing technologist in the broader domain of Financial Services.

The position will be based in Singapore.

• Lead and contribute to original research, based both on your own ideas and relevant areas of the bank that may benefit from advanced computing methods
• Forge strategic alliances with academic and industry luminaries, collaborating to solve complex computational problems tailored to intricate domain challenges

Qualifications

• PhD in Physics, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, or related field with demonstrated quantitative background
• 2-3 years post-doctoral experience in either industry or academia
• Experience in quantum algorithm development and application in the areas of optimization, machine learning, or complex simulation
• Published research in at least one of the aforementioned topics
• Demonstrated communication of scientific results at research conferences or other colloquia
• Familiarity with quantum computers and implementation of quantum algorithms on such hardware
• Programming experience in classical and quantum algorithms. Expertise in Python quantum SDKs (qiskit, circ, etc)

The National Cybersecurity R&D Laboratory (NCL) is a shared national infrastructure that provides computing resources, repeatable and controllable experimentation environments, as well as application services for the cybersecurity R&D community. The infrastructure includes a cluster of 300 nodes that provides a wide range of provisioning mechanisms, security data and security services. · Compute humid-heat stress by integrating spatially averaged ambient meteorological data.

· Assess the spatial distribution of heat health risks, identify the climate adaptation capacity of vulnerable groups and neighbourhoods.

· Evaluate the social impacts of climate change (e.g., temperature, heat stress) on human health and mobility behaviour.

· Compute a novel humid-heat index by using multi-modal data, combining geostatistical, AI, and urban physical modelling, apportioned to the chosen unit of analysis.

· Contribute to writing articles for publication in reputable journals.

What skills will you need?

· A Master’s degree in urban planning or geography or a strongly related field from a reputable university.

· Experience in conducting research.

· Expertise in urban heat assessment, health risk and equality analysis, and strong geospatial analysis skills.

· Good command of GIS and geospatial modelling software (e.g., Python, R).

· Experience in multi-source data and multi-scale (regional, urban, neighbourhood) analysis, modeling, and planning.

We are looking to fill research positions in maritime decarbonisation modelling:

1) In the first, Computational Fluid Dynamics simulations of ammonia and methanol engines will be performed, leading to a better understanding of the pollutant-generation processes. In addition to excelling in handling turbulent combustion theory Extensive, experience in combustion CFD is necessary.

2) In the second, systems modelling of alternative fuels and application to real-world data from ship operations will be performed, to compare possible decarbonisation scenarios in view of realistic ship operations. A thorough understanding of lifecycle analysis, energy system modelling, and Techno-economic analysis is needed. The ability to program in languages such as Python programming would be a plus.

Who are we looking for?

The Gaunt group are looking for passionate and creative scientist to join our team as postdoctoral researchers in synthetic chemistry based in Cambridge Centre for Advanced Research and Education in Singapore, and closely integrated with the Gaunt group @ the University of Cambridge. The successful candidate will join the dynamic and collaborative research group of Professor Matthew Gaunt, working at the forefront of cutting-edge synthetic methodologies and their applications (https://www.thegauntgroup.com/).

The synthetic chemist at CARES will be supervised by Prof. Gaunt and will join a “Synthesis Team” of the larger SM3 project, which will involve close collaboration with Profs. Who are we looking for?

We are seeking highly motivated combustion researchers to work in the following areas:

1) Kinetics: (i) Experiments with flow reactors and laminar flames. The successful applicant will be skilled in analytical combustion chemistry systems such as gas chromatography and laser detection; (ii) Development of detailed and reduced chemical mechanisms. Experience in combustion chemistry modelling is needed.

2) Laminar and turbulent flame fundamentals: (i) Experiments with laminar pulsed and turbulent swirl flames. Skills in flame rig design, laser diagnostics and optical methods for flames are needed. (ii) Modelling with combustion Computational Fluid Dynamics (DNS, LES), with experience in the fundamentals of turbulent combustion, CFD and massively-parallel computations.

3) High-pressure combustion: Experiments and simulations for reciprocating engines and gas turbines. For the experimental positions, the successful candidate must be skilled in optical diagnostics, engine combustion, swirl combustion, fluids handling and data analysis. For the modelling positions, experience in CFD of engines or gas turbine combustors is a prerequisite.

4) Detonations and ignition risk analysis with CFD. The position involves high-order CFD methods for capturing detonations and turbulent flow analysis for ignition. The successful candidate must be experienced with CFD.

What skills will you need?

All positions require a PhD or equivalent research experience in a combustion topic relevant to the above areas, strong motivation to work in a multi-national collaborative team, and extensive experience with report writing, journal publications, and presentations to academic and industrial settings. Connections with industry are part of the project so the researchers will have the opportunity to collaborate with industrial R&D. The experimental positions need strict adherence to Health & Safety protocols and experience in developing experimental facilities at a professional level.

Job Responsibilities:

1. Responsible for the drafting, review and filing of various contracts to ensure the accuracy and compliance of contract contents.
