Research Associate in Assoc Prof Steve Yim's lab

The Air Pollution and Health team's research of Prof. Steve Yim focuses on the interactions between climate and air quality, and the resultant impacts on public health and ecosystem. The team's ongoing research is to develop, advance and utilize the state-of-the-art multi-scale atmospheric models, along with measurement and statistical approaches, to understand the mechanisms that drive the climate-air quality interactions, and evaluate the impacts on human exposure, mosquito abundance and soil acidity.

Particular interests are in investigating air quality impacts of sectoral emissions and transboundary air pollution at multiple spatial scales, studying regional climate change due to land-use changes and global climate change, and evaluating and quantifying the effects of air pollution on respiratory and cardiovascular diseases. The team also assesses and develops emission control scenarios to provide scientific-based policy solutions for a sustainable environment in present and future years.

Research Fellow position available to lead research projects in Optics and Photonics. Particularly we are interested in the specific topic of nanoantenna-enhanced light emitting devices. Responsibilities:

• Use IT tools to automate data collection processes for a research study (e.g., using macros in Microsoft Office applications such as Excel and Word):
• Generate administrative forms, reports and other materials to be sent to schools;
• Collate and check data submitted by schools;
• Communicate and clarify with schools on data submission.
• May also be required to perform other administrative tasks.

• Maintain quality management system and support material characterization requirements for technical domains "Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry" and "NMR, Physical and Thermal Characterization".
• Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry Domain - HPLC / LC-QTOF / LCMS-MS / CIC / GPC / ICP-OES / ICP-MS / GC / TD, PY, HS-GCMS / Gas sampling and analysis, etc.
• NMR, Physical and Thermal Characterization Domain - NMR, FTIR, UV, BET, SDT, TPDRO, EA, Rheometer, Tensile Testing, etc.
• Foster strong partnership and close collaborations with both internal R&D and external key industry stakeholders.
• Demonstrated competency in managing analytical instruments. This includes applying specialised knowledge to build deeper understanding for method development / validation and equipment calibration / troubleshooting / maintenance.
• Conduct analytical training for laboratory personnel, ensure appropriate competency before certifying them as authorised users.

Irradiation of the brain in early human life may set abnormal developmental events into motion that last a lifetime, leading to the development of different neurological and neuropsychological disorders. By working on post- or pre-natal irradiated mice, the candidate will have an in-depth understanding of the mechanism of disease genesis, could explore to develop modern radiation detection, disease diagnosis techniques and novel therapy to prevent genesis of neurological and neuropsychological disorders from a long-term point view.

We are seeking motivated Research Assistant / Research Associate and the successful incumbent will work with a team of scientists engaged in radiobiology research. The duties include but are not limited to:

• Routine lab work and maintenance
• Small animal handling
• Molecular biology work
• Bioinformatical analysis

• Histochemical and immunohistochemical staining.

Qualifications

• A B.Sc. and/or Master degree holder in biology or biomedical science
• Prefer to do small animal research work

Job Description

Purpose:

To provide administrative support for research in the day to day operations of research studies.

To participate in screening and recruitment of patients as potential trial participants according to research protocols.

To participate in the collection of samples and data for research studies for publications, external collaborations and grant funding.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Conduct and coordinate research related activities and projects in the department according to Good Clinical Practice guidelines and standard operating procedures in compliance with HBRA, other applicable regulatory and ethical requirements as well as hospital policies if applicable.
• Assist with studies being undertaken by the Principal Investigator (as either the lead or collaborator), including studies on pregnancy health using placenta, cord tissue, cord/maternal blood and urine, fetal membranes, uterine biopsies, and questionnaire data, on maternal metabolic or mental health and others.
• Carry out administrative duties including procurement of study needs, expense tracking and payment processing, collation of data, recording of inventory, coordination of meetings and travel arrangements, and other administrative duties.
• Liaise with Principal Investigator and other investigators on participant recruitment, conduct of study visits, data and sample collection.
• Coordinating with the laboratory team and clinical team for collection of samples.
• Maintain proper filing and documentation of clinical trial files and electronic case report forms (including source documentation), and assist with audits and study reports.

Qualifications

• Those with no experience are welcomed to apply but candidates with a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience would be preferred.
• Degree holder in science-related field, nursing or equivalent
• Good understanding of GCP, familiarity with research-based principles
• Good written and communication skills. Ability to speak other languages and common dialects will be an added advantage.
