ABOUT DESCARTES

The DesCartes programme is developing a hybrid AI, combining Learning, Knowledge and Reasoning, which has good properties (need for less resources and data, security, robustness, fairness, respect for privacy, ethics), and demonstrated on industrial applications of the smart city (digital energy, monitoring of structures, air traffic control).

The program brings together 80 permanent researchers (half from France, half from Singapore), with the support of large industrial groups (Thales SG, EDF SG, ESI group, CETIM Matcor, ARIA etc.).

The research will take place mainly in Singapore, at the premises of CNRS@CREATE, with a competitive salary and generous funding for missions.

WP3 aims at

supporting the whole Descartes program in order to develop advanced optimization-based solutions in the context of hybrid AI. Any AI system or machine learning algorithm ultimately involves a formulation with an objective or loss function to be minimized. The modelling of the problem as well as the chosen objective function optimization algorithm is crucial to the success of the overall AI task. This is all the more crucial in the context of hybrid AI, which seeks to integrate physics-inspired models with machine learning algorithms. We will address this problem from two complementary angles, namely optimization-based methods and machine learning-based methods.

The Research Fellow (RF) is expected to contribute to the design and engineering of hybrid twin-based simulation and control architectures for urban critical systems using optimization-based techniques. Finally, the RF will contribute to the use cases of Descartes.

A Research Assistant position is available immediately in A/Prof Victor Yu’s laboratory at National University of Singapore (NUS).

The successful candidate will assist the senior team members in investigating the role of MOAP-1 in aging, senescence and lipid metabolism.

The Research Assistant will be involved in wet lab experiments that involve cell cultures and mouse work using standard molecular biology and biochemistry techniques. Job Overview
Data is core to Preqin’s industry offerings, and the data and research management team delivers accurate, timely and complete data enhancing the value of our award-winning offerings. The trust in our underlying content enables our clients to make key investment decisions. Besides collecting content, the data management team collaborates extensively with our internal and external clients to improvise our offerings leveraging technology and subject matter expertise. The team understands the life cycle of data and establishes business intelligence reports seeking operational excellence.

The individual is responsible for aiding in the future growth and development of the team’s internal and external services as well as assisting with the ongoing development of its team members. This role based in Singapore will form a core part of the Investors – South Asia, Southeast Asia, and Australasia team. This is achieved through operational excellence and clear day-to-day maintenance of the dataset & content, including core business-as-usual (BAU) tasks and going above and beyond to collaborate, innovate and execute on relevant ad-hoc projects to improve the accuracy, completeness and timeliness of data.

Responsibilities

In this role you will be:

• Proactively communicating and building relationships with key professionals of all levels within the alternative assets industry to obtain valuable proprietary information on past, current and future investment activities
• Updating Preqin’s online database with key financial information, statistics, and analysis
• Demonstrating subject matter expert (SME) for the dataset, supporting internal and external stakeholders in gaining an understanding of internal processes concerning data management
• Troubleshooting escalated data quality incidents, collaborating with regional stakeholders and/or global BUs as needed
• Assisting in managing day-to-day data operations with an aim to create and further operational excellence
• Supporting senior team members on research projects and getting involved in further data enhancement and development activities
• Assisting in the day-to-day development of the team, ensuring that training is well-executed, protocols are followed, and the team remains engaged and motivated
• Assisting in hiring and performance management of the department
• Conducting bespoke statistical analysis for clients
• Conducting supplementary public/web research where necessary
• Provide support to Research Insights, Product & Marketing Groups, etc., to ensure all related publications and content are delivered according to guidelines and deadlines

Qualifications

You are a good fit if:

• At least 3 years of relevant working experience in data/financial data services/alternative assets required
• Proven ability to pick up domain knowledge relevant to data and financial markets
• People and/or project management experience
• Ability to think critically and strategically on ways of further developing and building out data
• Ability to introduce change management in data as appropriate introducing technology and processes
• Strong time management and prioritization skills
• Demonstrate communications skills with experience working with high-level executives
• Business fluency in English is required
• Education level – Bachelor’s Degree

Desirable Experience:

• Organisational design skills are key in order to work with senior management on strategic initiatives
• Experience in working across cultures and locations and/or in a remote management setup preferred
• Prior experience working in or knowledge of the alternative assets industry or prior expertise within Data Management in financial services preferred
• Experience with various workflow tools such as Alteryx, Salesforce, Outreach, Jira, Office 365, etc.
