We are seeking to recruit a research fellow to join the Bezos Centre for Sustainable Protein at the National University of Singapore (NUS) launched on 5 September 2024, the first of its kind in Asia to advance research in alternative proteins. Led by experts from NUS and research institutes in Singapore, the Centre aims to drive global food security and accelerate regional innovation. The focus will be on microalgae research and biomass fermentation, to produce high-quality, affordable, and sustainable microbial proteins from microalgae and biomass fermentation that can be further developed into cultured meat and plant-based protein hybrids. Microbial proteins will be cultivated through fermentation and processed using emerging bio-physical techniques for effective biotransformation, to improve digestibility, flavour, and nutritional profile. As a research fellow, you will lead projects to optimise microalgae cultivation processes and apply bio-physical techniques to improve nutritional and organoleptic properties. Appointments will be initially made on a 1-year contract, renewable for up to 5 years.

Responsibilities:
- Conduct research activities in accordance with the Centre objectives involving but not limited to:
i. Conversion of industrial food side-streams into media suitable for microalgae cultivation.
ii. Microalgae cultivations in flask and benchtop bioreactors under batch, fed batch, or continuous modes.
iii. Conduct chromatographic, spectroscopic, and fluorescent analyses to monitor microalgae growth.
iv. Monitor the success of bio-physical techniques via in vitro digestibility studies, chromatography, and advanced microscopic analyses.
v. Assist in scaling up cultivations to pilot scale setting.
- Conceptualise new ideas, plan, and drive the overall direction of projects.
- Independently execute experiments, analyse data, and interpret results in a systematic and logical manner.
- Prepare formal reports, publications, grant applications, and presentations.
- Contribute to project management by overseeing budgets, designating resources, monitoring progress, and managing stakeholders.
- Mentor research assistants, graduate and undergraduate students.
- Coordinate research efforts with an interdisciplinary and international team of researchers within the Centre and other stakeholders.
- Coordinate procurement and liaison with vendors/suppliers.
- Ensure proper laboratory operation and equipment maintenance.

Qualifications

About the Centre for Research in Health Systems Performance (CRiHSP)

Optimizing the performance of health systems is essential to ensuring the wellbeing and longevity of populations worldwide. Singapore is particularly well placed to lead research in this field as its health system has been consistently ranked as one of the best in the world based in independent evaluation with the Global Burden of Disease data. The new Centre for Research in Health Systems Performance (CRiHSP) aims to advance research in this area within the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine of the National University of Singapore (NUS) as the leading centre for research in health systems in Asia with the following core functions:

1. Research: empirical and methodological research and evidence synthesis on health systems performance with a particular focus on Value Based Healthcare.
2. Health policy intelligence: health policy impact analysis aimed at policy makers, service providers, researchers, and the wider public.
3. Capacity building: formal postgraduate programme (from certificates to PhD), fellowships, mentoring, on-the- job and ad hoc training

The Research Associate will have the following duties:

Job Requirement:

• Candidate must possess at least Diploma in Food Science, Chemistry, Science or equivalent

• Work requires some standing and sitting for long periods of time, including working within a laboratory hood and standing at a bench top

Job Responsibilities:

· Support TLs / RMs in regard to client account administration, client servicing and retention efforts

· Liaison with internal departments regarding administrative matters concerning execution and settlement of trades, delivery of securities,corporate action, payment and receipt of funds, renewal and repayment of loans.

· Liaison with other financial institutions and service providers regarding account opening request and other clients’ administrative matters.

· Check daily transaction list to ensure trades are processed correctly

· Prepare and send trade confirmations to clients

· Monitor and arrange for settlement of trades

· Prepare payment orders

· Input orders for securities, forex and money market into system

· Prepare and followup on account opening documentation

· Maintaining and updating of spreadsheets for selected clients

· Print valuation reports and prepare client’s outstanding documents,brochures and investment and research materials for RM’s business trip

· To assist TLs/RMs in making sure there are no outstanding items relating to client administration matters

Job Requirements:

· Minimum 1 to 2 years' experience in a Bank (preferably in a Private Bank setup)

· Good spoken and written English is a must

· Non-Examinable Course (NEC) or CACS Paper 1 and Paper 2

Key Responsibilities

1. Supporting and assisting our team of lawyers in drafting legal and corporate secretarial documents such as corporate resolutions, agreements, circulars and announcements, wills and trusts etc

2. Regulatory filings with government agencies such as the Singapore Exchange, ACRA, IRAS

3. Legal research

Who we are looking for

The ideal candidate should have the following:

- A diploma or degree (preferably in law) obtained from a reputable educational institution

- Excellent written and spoken communication skills in English

- Strong work ethics

- Excellent interpersonal relationship skills

- Ability to work both independently and in a team

- Proficiency in the Microsoft suite of products, especially MS Word

- Prior work experience in law firms would be a plus, although fresh graduates are welcome to apply
