Postdoctoral Fellowship in Asia Research Institute (Science, Technology and Society Research Cluster)

The Asia Research Institute invites outstanding, active researchers from around the world to work on an important piece of Asia-centred research in the social sciences or humanities.

Apart from the quality of the research proposal, and the applicant’s publication track record, positions will be awarded on the basis of the relationship of their research topic to the identified priorities and themes of the cluster.

The Science, Technology, and Society (STS) Cluster concentrates on the relationship between those three domains in and beyond Asian settings, and their intersections with the environment in the past, present and future.

The cluster currently brings together a diverse, interdisciplinary group of researchers who work on the following research themes:

i) climate change and carbon governance;

ii) planetary health and ‘Asian medicines’;

iii) energy transitions, infrastructure and space;

JOB DESCRIPTION

The lab of Computational Transcriptomics at the Genome Institute of Singapore (led by Dr Jonathan Göke) is offering a position for a postdoctoral fellow to develop methods for analyzing long read transcriptomics data. The successful candidate will lead software and methods development to analyze RNA modifications from nanopore direct RNA-Seq data. The candidate is expected to develop new supervised and unsupervised approaches using statistics and machine learning, and to apply them to clinical samples. We are looking for candidates to join the fusion-energy effort in the newly formed Future Energy Acceleration & Translation (FEAT) Programme, A*STAR. FEAT's plasma physics team focuses primarily on plasma diagnostics, microwave and radiofrequency (RF) heating and current drive (H&CD), and exhaust, with an emphasis on solving the challenges faced by future fusion energy systems. The new hires will be expected to contribute to, and potentially lead, research in magnetic confinement fusion. This includes analytical, computational, and experimental approaches, with the particular emphasis dependent on one's interests and skill set. While the new hires will begin by working on existing projects, participation in grant calls as a principal investigator will be highly encouraged.

We are looking to fill several positions in:

• Plasma diagnostics, including experimental, computational, and AI approaches.
• Theory and simulation of microwave and RF H&CD.
