Purpose of the post

The Research Assistant (RA) will be responsible to, and work closely with, the Principal Investigator (Assoc. Project Overview

We are seeking a Research Scientist to systematically organize knowledge for a project on “Designing human-AI teams.” The project is part of a five-year research program on "Mens, Manus and Machina—How AI Empowers People, Institutions and Cities in Singapore (M3S)."

Successful applicants for this position will have the opportunity to work on a cutting-edge, interdisciplinary project that aims to dramatically rethink how people and AI systems will work together in the future. To do this, the project seeks to build a strong scientific foundation for how AI can augment (as opposed to replace) humans.

An important goal of the project is to develop a rich ontology of activities that can be performed by human-AI teams. Like categorizing the plants and animals on a little-explored continent, the work will involve cataloging many (a) activities and (b) possible human-computer processes for performing these activities.

To do this, we will develop knowledge graphs that include (1) descriptions of many different types of activities and processes, and (2) classifications of these descriptions into multi-dimensional taxonomies that range from very general types of activities to very specific ones.

These knowledge graphs will then be used to automatically generate promising ways of combining humans and AI systems to perform different tasks. In the long run, we believe these tools will help rapidly (a) identify use cases for new AI capabilities, (b) specify effective processes and task allocations to humans and computers in a given situation, and (c) identify innovative ways to combine people and AI to solve business and societal problems.

The T6 team is led by distinguished scholars, including Profs. Position Summary

The Infectious Diseases Translational Research Program (IDTRP) at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore (NUS) invites applications for the position of tenure track Assistant Professor. We seek an exceptional and motivated individual to develop and lead a research program in infectious diseases, with a focus on translational research that bridges fundamental discoveries and clinical applications.

The ideal candidate should have strong expertise and interests in microbial interactions inside the gut, and their impact on health and disease. Key Responsibilities

• Establish an independent, externally funded research program in infectious diseases with an emphasis on translational approaches.
• Conduct cutting-edge research that contributes to IDTRP’s goals, including vaccine development, antimicrobial resistance, pathogen-host interactions, and public health interventions.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including clinicians, scientists, and other stakeholders to drive impactful research.
• Mentor and supervise undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral researchers.
• Teach undergraduate and graduate-level courses in areas related to microbiology or immunology, anchored under the Department of Microbiology & Immunology.
• Publish high-quality, peer-reviewed research in leading journals and present findings at national and international conferences.
• Actively participate in IDTRP’s events, workshops, and outreach activities.

Qualifications

Essential:

• PhD, MD, or equivalent degree in microbiology, immunology, epidemiology, or a related field.
• Proven track record of research excellence as evidenced by first author original high impact publications.
• Strong potential to secure competitive external funding.
• Expertise in translational research methodologies.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in interdisciplinary teams.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills.

Desirable:

• Experience in teaching and curriculum development at the graduate level.
• Experience in mentoring and supervising research trainees.
• Research experience in tropical infectious diseases or diseases of global health significance.
• Familiarity with regulatory and ethical requirements for translational research.

Job Description

As a Research Fellow in Communication, Journalism, and Related programs with CTIC, you have demonstrated prior research experience, so you will be tasked with supporting the planning and execution of a research project under the CTIC Digital Resilience research grant. You will work closely with the Principal Investigator on a research problem related to news on social media.
RAs with a communication research background will be tasked to focus on human evaluation and news consumption (Communication research).
Ras with a computer science or related background will be tasked to focus on natural language processing and generation (NLProc, Large Language Models or LLMs, Computational Linguistics).
You will be handling and contributing to research and innovative findings in a team, leading to publications in top-tier conferences/journals as well as exciting real-world implementations. Job Responsibilities

As a Research Fellow with CTIC, you will have the following duties:

Research:
• Plan and lead literature review efforts
• Plan and draft submissions for conferences and journals based on findings.
• Plan and write op-eds for university blogs and popular media.
• Comm Research RAs:
o Plan and conduct experiments on human perception and consumption of online news.
o Collect data and analyze it using tools like SPSS, R, and Excel
• CS Research RAs:

Coordination:

Qualifications

Data science is an important component of biomedical and translational research, where data of multiple modalities are being constantly generated at unprecedented scale. The Research Data Integration group in the Biomedical Datahub Division of the Bioinformatics Institute (BII), A*STAR, aims to bridge the complexity of computational biology and data science with the needs of biologists and clinicians to drive biological discoveries and predict translational outcomes. We are developing data platforms in BII Biomed DAR, integrating healthcare data including clinical and research data, for various diseases including cancer, metabolic diseases and skin diseases. We are seeking a computational scientist to develop analytical, statistical and machine learning methodologies and workflows for analysis and integration of large-scale multi-dimensional omics (bulk, single-cell, spatial), perturbation screens, imaging and clinical data) for these data platforms. The candidate is expected to drive data science research to uncover underlying diseases biology, druggable targets and develop personalized medicine approaches. This position offers the candidate an opportunity to work closely with a team of clinicians, wet-lab scientists and computational biologists. He/She is also expected to drive high impact publications and manage large-scale projects, include data management.

Project Overview

We are seeking a Research Engineer to systematically organize knowledge for a project on “Designing human-AI teams.” The project is part of a five-year research program on "Mens, Manus and Machina—How AI Empowers People, Institutions and Cities in Singapore (M3S)."

Successful applicants for this position will have the opportunity to work on a cutting-edge, interdisciplinary project that aims to dramatically rethink how people and AI systems will work together in the future. To do this, the project seeks to build a strong scientific foundation for how AI can augment (as opposed to replace) humans.

An important goal of the project is to develop a rich ontology of activities that can be performed by human-AI teams. Like categorizing the plants and animals on a little-explored continent, the work will involve cataloging many (a) activities and (b) possible human-computer processes for performing these activities.

To do this, we will develop knowledge graphs that include (1) descriptions of many different types of activities and processes, and (2) classifications of these descriptions into multi-dimensional taxonomies that range from very general types of activities to very specific ones.

These knowledge graphs will then be used to automatically generate promising ways of combining humans and AI systems to perform different tasks. In the long run, we believe these tools will help rapidly (a) identify use cases for new AI capabilities, (b) specify effective processes and task allocations to humans and computers in a given situation, and (c) identify innovative ways to combine people and AI to solve business and societal problems.\

The T6 team is led by distinguished scholars, including Profs. Thomas Malone, Charles Fine, Armando Solar-Lezama, Jinhua Zhao, and Abdullah Almaatouq from MIT; Prof. Marcelo Ang from the National University of Singapore; and will be assisted by Prof. Archan Misra from Singapore Management University.

Responsibilities

• Developing descriptions of current or potential activities and processes based on various sources such as: interviews, field studies, literature reviews, and generative AI systems (such as ChatGPT).
• Making editorial decisions about what content from these sources to include in the knowledge graphs and how to present and organize this knowledge clearly.
