In the future, Singapore may be importing renewable energy in the form of hydrogen (H2) or ammonia (NH3). These zero-carbon fuels will require the development of new gas turbines (GTs) and internal combustion engines (ICE) used in power generation, aviation, and maritime propulsion.

This project focuses on the combustion fundamentals of hydrogen, ammonia, their blends, and their blends with hydrocarbon fuels. The knowledge acquired in HYCOMBS will enable the penetration of zero-carbon fuels in the Singapore energy system and this will benefit Singaporean industries and residents.

DESCRIPTION

In the WP4 of HYCOMBS project, the objective is to improve the combustion process in medium-duty engine. Retrofit engine in order to fill with ammonia requires some small changes, mainly relative to its auto-ignition characteristics. If the compression ratio is not higher than 20, to reach compression ignition more reactive species are needed as the pilot injection of diesel (Advanced Compression Ignition Engine) or to add a spark plug (Si engine with diesel flow field). Up today, even if the number of works on Ammonia engine increase (80 papers in 2024) it is evident that the processes are not sufficiently characterized to develop accurate tools to predict these combustion development [1], [2], [3].

The objective of this post-doc position is first to provide accurate experimental data base highly resolved in space and time to study the fundamental of combustion using NH3, blended with H2 or Diesel type fuel to help CFD model development. This will be done in an optical combustion chamber in Singapore. Second, experimental engine tests will be done in light duty and medium duty to evaluate the scale change and as a function of the 2 ignition strategies. Combustion specifications, performances and pollutant emissions with a special attention of the NOx emissions will be characterized and analyzed. This will be done in collaboration with NTU team.

In the WP2 of HYCOMBS project, the objective is to improve the knowledge and understanding of flames with non-conventional fuels to improve CFD model. Turbulent-combustion interaction for NH3/air, NH3/CH4/air, NH3/H2/air mixtures remains not well understood and few data are currently available [1-3].

The objective of this post-doc position is to provide accurate experimental data base highly resolved in space and time to study the fundamental of combustion using various NH3, H2 and CH4 blends and to help CFD model development. These tests will be conducted in a spherical combustion chamber with isotropic and homogeneous turbulence at different initial thermodynamics conditions, i.e. temperature and pressure with different types of mixture [4]. In a first part several optical diagnostics will be implemented and evaluated in order to deeply study flame propagation and flame/turbulence interactions such as: PIV, 3D Mie-Scattering tomography as in [5], OH* PLIF, etc. Main part of the work will consist of the data analysis to characterize the interaction. The database will be done and discussed with the others partners of fundamental combustion tasks, and especially CARES team.

We are looking for a highly motivated individual who has a strong passion to identify and validate novel molecular targets, biomarkers, and therapeutic drugs in vitro and in vivo disease models against neurodegeneration in our Neural Stem Cell Research Laboratory of National Neuroscience Institute of Singapore (Novena Campus).

The laboratory focuses on the elucidating the molecular mechanisms the underlie the miRNA-mediated neurodegeneration; developing potential biomarkers with therapeutic applications in neurological disorders; characterizing pathological features of neurodegenerative diseases in different disease models, including patient iPSCs-derived cerebral organoids and transgenic mouse models.

Applicants with relevant background in molecular genetics, neural stem cells, miRNA biology, drug development or related fields are invited to apply. Successful candidates must be highly motivated, are passionate about research and be able to work in an interdisciplinary environment.

Job Requirements

• PHD in Life Sciences with wet laboratory experience, majoring in Genetics / Biochemistry & Cellular Biology / Neuroscience/ Pharmacology or related discipline.
• Experiences with mouse work would be strongly preffered.
• Previous experience with stem cell biology, gene edition, multiplex, and bioinformatics data analysis would be added advantages.
• Good writing (including manuscript and grant writing), presentation and communication skills.
• A team player and a strong desire to learn and take on intellectual challenges.

Job Scope

Support Clinical Project Managers (CPMs) and study team with administrative, documentation, TMF, budget management and logistic activities related to Clinical studies during the operational phase of clinical trials to ensure the timely delivery of quality data while complying with internal Standard Operating Procedures, applicable laws and ICH Good Clinical Practice.

• Supports high-quality electronic Trial Master Files (eTMFs). Performs set-up, maintenance (filing and approving documents) and archiving of eTMFs.
• Provides CRO oversight by developing eTMF guidelines, establishing review processes, and ensure the filing completeness.
• Manages documentation of clinical studies in compliance with Good Clinical Practices (GCP) and relevant Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and perform filing QC
• Supports CPMs with vendor creation, budget and invoice management: checking of good receipt and payments, uploading invoice information in Finance budget tool, assist on planning of commitments monthly and keeping track of actual spending for each study

• Assists study team in the quality check of protocols, informed consent forms and advertisement materials to ensure compliance with SOPs and regulatory requirements.

Requirements
