The AMR IRG is an interdisciplinary community of biologists, engineers, and clinicians from MIT and Singapore, sharing a state-of-the art research facility and united by a commitment to providing a supportive intellectual environment where students and staff can learn, grow, and contribute to solving a pressing societal problem.

The objective of this project is to advance the field of RNA analysis by developing and implementing innovative analytical tools. These tools will be used in a comprehensive study of all forms of RNA -- the ribonucleome -- and the >170 RNA modifications -- the epitranscriptome -- in disease pathobiology, host-pathogen interactions, biomarker development, and therapeutic target discovery.

Responsibilities

The Research Engineer will plan and conduct experiments with the aim of understanding RNA modifications' roles in human disease and leveraging RNA-modifying enzymes as potential drug discovery targets. The candidate will work primarily on cell culture, RNA isolation, and chromatography-coupled mass spectrometry analysis. As part of this work, the candidate will prepare results for publication, be a liasion with the AMR IRG community, work with external collaborators, and develop strong experimental and communication skills.

Requirements

B.S. or M.S. in biochemistry, molecular & cell biology, bioengineering, chemical engineering, or a related field.

Experience in cell culture, RNA extraction, high-performance liquid chromatography or mass spectrometry are prefered. Strong proficiency in oral and written communication in English. Ability to work well with others and as part of a team.

This project will study and propose feasible solution to retrofit existing coastal protection structures. Special feature of this proposed solution is that it must be able to reduce seawater seepage, using innovative way of impervious material. Successful candidates are expected to 1) conduct original research for publications based on data from several large cohort studies in the United States and in Singapore, such as the U.S. National Institute of Child and Human Development (NICHD) Fetal Growth Studies, Diabetes & Women’s Health Study (www.dwhstudy.org), Growing Up in Singapore Towards healthy Outcomes (GUSTO), and the Singapore Preconception Study of Long-Term Maternal and Child Outcomes (S_PRESTO); 2) present at scientific conferences; 3) contribute to competitive grant applications; and 4) mentor junior researchers within a multi-disciplinary research team. Successful candidates will also have the opportunity to develop their independent research initiatives using the wealth of data from the school and collaborative national and international institutes.

Qualifications

Candidates with a doctoral degree in epidemiology, nutrition, or a closely related field, or those with a medical degree with some experience or advanced graduate training in epidemiology, population health, or biostatistics are invited to apply. Preference will be given to candidates with strong research experience in any of, but not limited to, the following areas.

We seek to appoint a postdoctoral Research Fellow (fixed term, 30 months) to work on uncertainty quantification in LLMs.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage own academic research and administrative activities. This involves small scale project management, to co-ordinate multiple aspects of the work to meet deadlines.
