Job Description

Purpose of the post

Who are we?

We are the University of Cambridge research centre in Singapore called Cambridge CARES, sponsored by the NRF CREATE program CAM.CREATE. Health-driven design for cities (HD4) is a collaborative research programme between the University of Cambridge, Nanyang Technological University and National University Singapore within Cambridge CARES.

HD4 sits at the heart of Singapore’s global research and development hub and paves the way for a sustainable and healthy city. It will undertake research in the following key areas: characterising the features of the environment that potentially impact health in Singapore; understanding the links between environmental factors, individual behaviour and health outcomes; observing the impact of environmental change on health in Singapore; simulating the impact of potential changes on the health of Singaporeans; and working with government agencies to co-develop data-rich public health tools.

The scientific techniques, technologies, tools and most importantly the knowledge gained through the programme will create a comprehensive systems view of how the urban environment affects population health in Singapore. The programme will train and enrich the talent pool of the next generation of researchers, and benefit from local and international expertise and an innovative interdisciplinary research ecosystem. Who are we looking for?

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Air Quality Modeller to join HD4. Working collaboratively with a team of population health scientists, geospatial scientists, and data engineers the post holder will lead on building various emission inventories and air quality models for Singapore which incorporate the various air pollution sources in the country and allow for linkage with the geolocations of participants of the Singapore 100K cohort (SG100K), including some geo-located behavioural data. The models will also be set-up and used subsequent scenario modelling to estimate the impact of interventions on air quality and health and disentangle the various sources through source apportionment. This role requires a multi-skilled individual that can work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Collaboration: Work closely with researchers to understand the data needs of the programme and contribute to the design of scientifically robust and policy relevant models linking emission inventories to air quality models and spatially and temporally assigning exposures for human participants in subsequent epidemiological analyses and health impact assessments.
• Data, identification, production, and assembly: Collaborate with team and external scientists, national and local organizations, and conduct independent literature reviews to produce and synthesise the required data sources with high temporal and spatial resolution and to link data across various sources.
• Data verification validation: Identify and use various primary collected data and published secondary data from peer-reviewed and grey literature to verify and validate produced emission and air quality model outputs. Ensure model robustness through cross-checking, calibration, and validation through multiple iterations.
• Model building: Build operational and validated air quality models and link their outputs to human participants in static (e.g. at home address) and dynamic exposure (assigning exposures to other locations outside the residential address only e.g. while travelling) assignment for diverse population groups.
• Support: Provide technical support and training to researchers.
• Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for model development, verification, and validation. Support project reporting and paper writing and submission to peer-reviewed journals.
• Innovation: Stay updated with the latest advancements in emissions and air quality modelling, and exposure assignment, to incorporate new technologies and methodologies.

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will take on the responsibility of leading a team in the design and development of mechanical systems. The candidate will work closely with cross-functional teams to lead projects, conducting feasibility studies and overseeing product development. They will also ensure that designs comply with both technical specifications and regulatory standards.

Job Roles and Responsibilities:

• Conceptualise, design, and develop mechanical components and mechanisms for medical devices.
• Responsible for the preparation and maintaining design documentation such as specifications, bill of materials, test protocols, test reports, etc.
• Lead a team to perform structural analysis, thermal analysis, and other relevant tests to validate and optimise designs.
• Responsible for feasibility tests to assess the viability and performance of proposed designs.
• Work closely with cross-functional teams, including teams in molecular diagnostics, protein immune assays, and digital diagnostic technologies as well as electrical engineers, software engineers, and project managers.
• Ensure compliance with DxD Hub Quality Management system, standards, and regulatory requirements such as FDA, ISO13485, etc.

Job Requirements:

• Master’s or bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, or related field.
• At least 5 years relevant experience in mechanical design engineering and completed one full product development cycle.
• Three years of experience or equivalent in close and collaborative work with design managers and product managers.
• Experiences in leading a mechanical design team is a plus.
• Proficient in CAD software, such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, etc.
• Strong understanding of engineering principles, materials, and manufacturing processes.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team.
• Knowledge in quality, product verification test, QMS, and ISO13485 would be an advantage.
• Self-driven team player who can work in a fast-paced environment.

The National University of Singapore invites applications for a Research Fellow in the Human Potential Translational Research Programme (HPTRP), Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. The HPTRP brings together researchers from a wide range of disciplines with an interest to maximise human potential. In HPTRP, we aim to adopt a holistic perspective that considers human potential as an integrative measure of health, productivity, performance, human capital and overall well-being over the lifespan, in our environment. Appointments will be made on one-year contract, with the possibility of one-year extension.

Purpose of the post

The Research Fellow (RF) will plan and execute research studies to better understand the impact of environmental heat stress on various populations. The successful candidate will be responsible to, and work with, the Principal Investigator (PI) to ensure the successful and timely completion of the project.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities of the successful candidate include but are not limited to:

1. Working closely with the PI to develop new research ideas, write up and present project proposals;
2. Designing research protocols and planning data collection strategies, guided by literature reviews and best practices;
3. Leading and training teams comprising Research Assistant(s), Students etc in the conduct of laboratory- and field-based research;
4. Establishing and managing databases;
5. Rigorous data analyses and interpretation of data;
6. Generating reports and high-quality publications for presentation to stakeholders and submission to top tier journals, respectively;
7. Leading a team comprising Research Assistant(s) and Students in the conduct of laboratory- and field-based research studies;
8. Working at different study sites, depending on the needs;
9. Working beyond routine work hours due to the nature of research;
10. Maintaining the highest standard of professional conduct and record-keeping in accordance with policies and procedures;
11. Maintaining regular communication with other members of the research team; and
12. Assisting with any other duties of a similar nature that are delegated by the PI.

Qualifications

The applicant should:

1. Have a Doctorate, preferably in sport science, life sciences or related disciplines;
2. Have an interest and experience leading and conducting laboratory and field research with human participants;
3. Be proficient in statistics, data analyses and data visualisation for both quantitative and qualitative data;
4. Have excellent written and verbal communication skills;
5. Be adaptable and able to multi-task well;
6. Be able to work independently and in a team;
7. Have an investigative nature and be detail-oriented;
8. Have knowledge of computer applications, e.g. SPSS, MS Office.

Remuneration will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience.
