Our client, a leading quality food provider and wholesaler, is looking for an experienced leader to join their growing business as Assistant Sales Manager (Modern Trade).
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Customer Management
- Deliver an exceptional account management experience for retail grocery channel customers.
- Monitor and report on all customer activities and asset performance; including assets, sampling drives, new product launch performance, POS and shelf-space performance and promotional activity.
- Prepare and present business reviews that highlight category performance in-store, challenges for joint attention and opportunities for future growth.
- Ensure all invoice queries have been responded to on time and that the customer account is maintained within payment terms. Where invoices are unpaid, follow up with the appropriate customer representatives to have overdue invoices receive the necessary attention.
New Business Development
- Range expansion for existing brands including additional shelf space and new product listing.
- New brand placement where there is an opportunity for material sales in the grocery channels.
- Develop new customer opportunities in physical retail channels.
- Prepare and present new business proposals to modern trade channel customers; including where appropriate product and price submissions, trade marketing and promotions.
In-store Execution
- Drive in-stock execution and activation across all customers through the merchandiser team.
- Ensure planograms, stock weight, stock turn and promotional display presentation are executed as per the agreed plan per customer.
- Execute Promoter Sampling program in stores.
Trade Promotion
- Propose and align promotion plans with retail customers which have been developed by brand principles and Channel Development Manager.
- Provide input into trade promotion concept and creative that aligns with managed accounts brand identity and target customer base.
- Monitor and report on promotional results and ROI, sharing with customers and brand principals.
- Ensure all trade spending is compliant with the approved process and claims process on time. Respond to any trade spend queries from principals immediately.
- Manage promotion budgets and resources per retail customer to drive productivity and sustainability.
- Monitor competitor activity in key accounts, providing insights and feedback to the team and brand principles that support effective market response.
Inventory Management
- Provide the procurement team with weekly volume forecasts to ensure that demand and supply are aligned and non-supply is minimized/eliminated.
- Troubleshot potential inventory issues where demand has not followed forecast; ensured that slow-moving stock concerns were addressed promptly with customers and brand principles.
- Minimize stock write-offs for retail products wherever possible with additional trade marketing activities, clearance through other channels, and claim from brand principals.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Diploma/Bachelor Degree in Business, Marketing, or related disciplines
- Minimum 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in Sales/Key Account Management
- Proven sales experience in Foodservice/Food/Beverage/FMCG industry
- High competence in stakeholder management

- Salary: Salary will commensurate according to experience & qualifications.
