The ideal candidate is adept at translating business strategy into communications campaigns that are relevant, relatable, and effective. And excellent writer and builder of relationships, he or she has strong influencing, critical thinking, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills.
While primarily responsible for External Communications, experience in integrating External, Executive, and Internal Communications is important, along with the ability to partner with the Marketing team to integrate campaigns and to cross-pollinate. The candidate should understand how to build PESO campaigns, as well as how to build and execute on earned KOL strategies.
Reporting directly to the Senior Director for Strategic Communications, the Communications Manager will play a pivotal role in ensuring effective communication strategies to drive organisation objectives and outcomes via Strategic Communications.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND RESULTS:
1. External and Executive Communications:
Strategic Communications and media relations:
- Understand and translate business imperatives into strong external communications campaigns and execute on them.
- Be familiar with traditional media, both local and regional, so that media campaigns, pitches, and media relationships are strong and on target. Be familiar with key technology and business media.
- Build creative, non-traditional Communications campaigns with both traditional and online media in mind.
- Build and execute on earned KOL campaigns.
- Work with agency to drive success as needed
Storytelling and Messaging:
- Build strong narratives and messaging around key business imperatives and focus areas.
- Develop compelling content across various formats (briefing documents, executive LinkedIn content, press releases, news blogs, speeches, presentations)
- Ensure consistent messaging across all communication channels
- Transform complex technical information into clear, engaging content for diverse audiences
Crisis Communications:
- Maintain crisis communication protocols and procedures
- Draft statements and responses during critical situations
- Monitor potential issues and provide early warning signals
- Coordinate with relevant stakeholders if in crisis situations
Measurement and Analytics:
- Track and report on communication KPIs
- Analyze media coverage and campaign effectiveness
- Provide insights and recommendations based on data
- Monitor industry trends and competitor activities with agency
2. Internal Communications: Be familiar enough with Internal Communications to support internal communication if needed. This will include:
- Coordinating with other departments for aligned messaging as needed
- Developing internal newsletters and communication materials
- Helping maintain internal communication channels
MANDATORY SKILLS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, or related field.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in internal communications and some experience in external & executive communications.
- Experience working in a fast-paced environment and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messaging for different audiences and channels.
- Proven track record of developing and implementing successful communication strategies that drive engagement and support business objectives.
- Self-starter who possesses strong planning and organizational skills, very resourceful
- Able to produce clear, factual and relevant information in written Business and marketing acumen and numerically inclined.
