The successful candidate will work with Associate Professor John S. Ascher on environmental modeling of mosquito vectors and stinging wasps and bees and other insects of importance for public and environmental health under the CNRS@CREATE, SPACE project.

The main responsibilities of the position include:

Working with the appointment PI to validate as fit for use an existing specimen and community science dataset of insects of importance for public and environmental health, especially mosquitoes and stinging wasps. The appointee will then conduct species distribution modeling based on an existing pipeline already established for bee research and documented in a publication. The candidate will start with highest priority mosquito species such as Aedes albopictus and other well known species of public health importance will move on to other species as time allows.

Qualifications

Skills:

The Global Centre for Asian Women’s Health (GloW) aims to build a global research platform for transdisciplinary endeavours to address major health concerns over a woman's lifespan and across generations. Through its main hub in Singapore, the Centre will engage in multi-disciplinary research to promote women’s health, including a series of diet and lifestyle intervention studies.

Purpose of the role

The project coordinator/manager will play a key role in dietary intervention studies by actively managing and coordinating diet and lifestyle intervention studies in GloW. Responsibilities include development, implementation and monitoring of meal plans, educating participants as needed, collecting dietary data, and performing administrative duties to ensure the studies’ success and compliance. The staff will work closely with Principal Investigators of intervention studies, collaborate closely with the research team, food service team, and other relevant stakeholders, as well as undertake other ad-hoc responsibilities assigned by the Centre’s Director as needed.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The staff will hold a few key responsibilities, including

(1) Intervention study coordinator:

• Recruit and interview study participants for the intervention study
• Implement methods for collecting dietary data, including detailed food intake records and compliance monitoring.

The role will be part of the Singapore Aerospace Programme (SAP) team to manage research projects performed by A*STAR Research Entities for industry partners, manage programme activities and handle industry engagement activites.

Key responsibilities include:

Programme management

• Assist in the planning and execution of new project launches including the call for problem statements, workshops and proposal/technical reviews
• Monitor on-going projects through regular review meetings with research teams to ensure budget and deliverables are met
• Manage report submissions and variation requests
• Assist in the planning and execution of 6-monthly Programme Management Committee (PMC) meetings
• Work with teammates to ensure the smooth operations of the programme
• Support other office functions, e.g. hosting industry events

Stakeholder engagement and development

• Participate in meetings with SAP consortium members, industry stakeholders and public agencies
• Assist in the planning and execution of Singapore Airshow exhibition and hosting of Singapore Aerospace Technology Leadership Forum
• Facilitate the conceptualization and development of follow-on research initiatives beyond SAP
• Work with inter-division or inter-agency teams to drive aerospace industry development, develop industry transformation maps and aerospace roadmaps
• Coordinate industry engagement activities such as company visits to A*STAR and Airshow meetings and manage follow-up actions
• Nurture industry accounts to deepen research activities with A*STAR
• Engage Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs) to jointly develop research ecosystem aerospace capabilities

Job Requirements

• Bachelor of Engineering, preferably in the field of aerospace or aeronautical
• 5 years of relevant experience, preferably in aerospace MRO or R&D and/or project management roles
• Strong communication skills
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Strong planning and analytical skills
• Result-oriented, resourceful and attentive to details
• Familiarity with the Singapore research ecosystem and grant call process will be an advantage

As a University of Applied Learning, SIT works closely with industry in our research pursuits. Our research staff will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT.

The primary responsibility of this role is to deliver on a research project, funded by Singapore Ministry of Education (MOE), where you will be part of the research team to develop a scalable and comprehensive framework for formal verification of quantum programs. The framework consists of the following deliverables:
• Intermediate Language. We plan to develop an intermediate language to model quantum programs. The intermediate language would be complete to describe all the desired characteristics of quantum computing while at the same time simple enough to be understood by most programmers.
• Formal Verification Framework. We plan to develop a comprehensive framework to verify the correctness of quantum programs written in the proposed intermediate language.
• Mechanization. We plan to mechanize the formal framework using state-of-the-art theorem provers such as Coq or Isabelle/HOL.
• Proof Automation. We plan to develop formal methods for automatic reasoning that can be materialized into commercial tools.

Key Responsibilities:

• Participate in and manage the research project with Principal Investigator (PI) and the research team members to ensure all project deliverables are met.
• Undertake these responsibilities in the project:
  1. develop an intermediate language to write quantum programs.
  2. develop a comprehensive framework to verify the correctness of quantum programs written in our intermediate language.
  3. mechanize the verification framework using state-of-the-art theorem provers such as Coq or Isabelle/HOL.
  4. develop formal methods for automatic reasoning that can be materialized into commercial tools.
• Carry out Risk Assessment, and ensure compliance with Work, Safety and Health Regulations.
• Coordinate procurement and liaison with vendors/suppliers.
• Work independently, as well as within a team, to ensure proper operation and maintenance of equipment.

Job Requirements:

• Have relevant competence in the areas of formal methods (including theorem proving and model checking, especially theorem proving), quantum computing, and software analysis/verification.
• Have a degree in computer science, computer engineering, or related areas. Possessing a Master’s or PhD degree will be advantageous
• Knowledge of separation logic and quantum program analysis/verification will be advantageous.

Major Challenges:

As quantum computers are operated in extreme physical conditions and thus the cost per run is significantly high, it is desirable to verify the correctness of a quantum programs before the execution. However, the verification task of quantum programs is challenging due to the following reasons:

• Quantum programs (even written at high-level languages) are complicated to comprehend as it requires a good understanding of quantum mechanics and the relevant advanced mathematics.
• The quantum states are exponentially huge in size because the state of a classical bit is either 0 or 1 at any time, while the state of a quantum bit (qubit) can be in the superposition, where both states 0 and 1 can co-exist simultaneously. This induces the state explosion problem for brute-force-like methods.
• Quantum states are naturally probabilistic thus may yield different results on different runs, which is challenging for the testing and debugging methods.
