Data science is an important component of biomedical and translational research, where data of multiple modalities are being constantly generated at unprecedented scale. The Research Data Integration group in the Biomedical Datahub Division of the Bioinformatics Institute (BII), A*STAR, aims to bridge the complexity of computational biology and data science with the needs of biologists and clinicians to drive biological discoveries and predict translational outcomes. One of our immediate challenges is to analyze and integrate and analyze multi-omics, imaging and clinical data generated by biomedical institutes in A*STAR, healthcare institutions and national initiatives in Singapore to improve the usability and interpretability of large-scale multimodal datasets of cancer, metabolic diseases, and other diseases. 1. Develop realistic forward model to simulate noisy cryo-electron micrographs from RNA biomolecules.
2. Perform computational phase retrieval on 2D micrographs using physics-informed neural networks.

The AMR IRG is an interdisciplinary community of biologists, engineers, and clinicians from MIT and Singapore, sharing a state-of-the art research facility and united by a commitment to providing a supportive intellectual environment where students and staff can learn, grow, and contribute to solving a pressing societal problem.

The objective of this project is to advance the field of RNA analysis by developing and implementing innovative analytical tools. These tools will be used in a comprehensive study of all forms of RNA -- the ribonucleome -- and the >170 RNA modifications -- the epitranscriptome -- in disease pathobiology, host-pathogen interactions, biomarker development, and therapeutic target discovery.

Responsibilities

The Research Engineer will plan and conduct experiments with the aim of understanding RNA modifications' roles in human disease and leveraging RNA-modifying enzymes as potential drug discovery targets. The candidate will work primarily on cell culture, RNA isolation, and chromatography-coupled mass spectrometry analysis. As part of this work, the candidate will prepare results for publication, be a liasion with the AMR IRG community, work with external collaborators, and develop strong experimental and communication skills.

Requirements

B.S. or M.S. in biochemistry, molecular & cell biology, bioengineering, chemical engineering, or a related field.
