DESCRIPTION

To join this team, we are looking for a candidate who will be in charge of enzyme engineering activities using state-of-the-art evolutionary engineering and computational enzyme design techniques. The candidate will be involved in the development of screening protocols, construction and screening of enzyme libraries, designed by in silico molecular modelling. These enzymes will be further used for the creation of novel metabolic pathways for terpenoid production in engineered bacterial strains.

This project will study and propose feasible solution to retrofit existing coastal protection structures. Special feature of this proposed solution is that it must be able to reduce seawater seepage, using innovative way of impervious material. The Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health at the National University of Singapore (NUS) seeks a highly motivated and skilled Research Fellow to join an interdisciplinary research project on surveillance for zoonotic and vector-borne diseases in changing environments (SENSOR Project). This project focusing on emerging diseases in Borneo and is conducted in collaboration with an international consortium of universities in Malaysia, Singapore and the UK. This position offers the opportunity to work on ground-breaking research projects in the broad areas of environmental change, infectious disease surveillance, spatial epidemiology, machine learning and global health.

Key responsibilities:

• Conduct high quality research in epidemiology, machine learning and/or meta-analyses to identify impacts of environmental change on infectious disease dynamics and design targeted surveillance approaches;
• Develop and implement statistical methods, computational models and/ or machine learning algorithms to analyse environmental and infectious disease data;
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams of researchers, including epidemiologists, biologists, environmental scientists and policy makers;
• Present research findings at national and international conferences and publish results in peer-reviewed scientific journals;
• Support design of field studies in collaboration with international partners;
• Assist in the supervision and mentoring of graduate students and junior researchers; and

Qualifications:
