You will support the Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Research & Education to oversee and implement the research programmes and initiatives of the National Dental Research Institute Singapore (NDRIS). Additionally, you will support the Academic Chair to oversee the academic initiatives under the Oral Health Academic Clinical Program (ORH ACP). You will be in-charge of managing research and academic support grants awarded to NDRIS and ORH ACP.

You will be responsible for research and academic strategic planning and implementation of the NDRIS’ and ORH ACP’s research and academic masterplans. You will be in charge of formulating and reviewing research and academic policies and procedures. You will be required to develop grant proposals and presentation decks for research and academic programmes and prepare cases for support to attract philanthropy funding. You will oversee the organisation of strategic initiatives, including planning strategic retreats, study trips and visits by key overseas delegations. You will facilitate partnerships with collaborators and industry players.

Requirements:

• PhD/ Masters in Science or other related field with minimum 10 years of relevant experience in research and academic administration
• At least 6 years of supervisory experience will be preferred
• Able to work independently and lead a team and function well in a team-based setting
• Possess good leadership, interpersonal, communication, organizational, time-management, analytical, presentation deck development and writing skills
• Highly motivated with strong ability to drive initiatives

Job Description:

The Research Fellow will be working on the development of theories and algorithms for non-terrestrial networks. Deliverables include publications and patents.

About SERI

SERI, the research arm of SNEC, was established in 1997 with the mission to conduct high-impact eye research that prevents blindness, low vision and major eye diseases in Singapore. Till date, SERI has conducted landmark research projects that have led to tangible outcomes, patient benefits and success stories. It has been paving the way for significant improvements in how eye diseases are treated and prevented, not just within Singapore but on a global scale.

What you'll do

The incumbent will undertake research in SERI and clinical research work at SNEC related to a broad range of ophthalmological conditions. He/she will assist the Director, Investigators and Consultants in the successful execution of the project(s).

The Research Component includes the following:

• Lead and Develop the discovery and translation of novel biomarkers, targets and therapies
• Report scientific outcomes and strategies to the Lead PI and Collaborators to support the successful development, coordination and management of the program
• Evaluate new research opportunities and collaborations tailored to the needs and interest of the research project
• Support clinical studies
• Conduct and coordinate clinical research in medical retinal diseases within SERI/SNEC in line with its research strategy, including PI-initiated studies and industry sponsored clinical trials
• Assist in management of these research projects, which includes supervising post-doctoral research assistants, research students, technical and other support staff (if any)
• Publish and disseminate research outcomes in appropriate journals of international standing and other reputable outlets
• Assist to draft research reports
• Attend and present research findings and papers at academic and professional conferences, and to contribute to the external visibility of the department
• Attend and participate in meetings (where necessary) and other committees and working groups within SERI/SNEC
• Ensure compliance with health and safety in all aspects of work
• Undertake such specific roles and management functions as may be reasonably required by the Director

The Clinical Research Component will include participation in clinics through which the post holder will be exposed to:

• A broad variety of retinal and vitreous disorders with particular emphasis on macular diseases and retinal vascular disease. The principles, interpretation and hands-on experience with fluorescein and indocyanine green angiography and optical coherence tomography using state-of-the-art equipment
• The principles, interpretation and hands-on experience in electrophysiology

Job Requirements

• MMed (Ophthalmology), FRCS or its equivalent, registrable with the Singapore Medical Council
• Completed 2 years of advance training rotations in general ophthalmology
• Research training with a Masters/PhD in epidemiology or in a related discipline, with of publications in international peer-reviewed journals
• Experienced in most aspects of clinical ophthalmology and competent with intravitreal injections.
• A demonstrated familiarity with principles of clinical research studies
• Able to work independently and multi-task
• A good command of English language
