N-GAP: Nanophotonic GAtes with exciton-Polaritons

One of the main goals in the field of quantum technologies is to achieve quantum computing.

Many technologies and platforms have been suggested to build a quantum computer, including ions, atoms, electrons, and superconducting materials. Among these options, all-integrated photonic platforms that allow creating complex circuitry with a small footprint are very promising.

In N-GAP we will explore and exploit a hybrid state of light and matter, the excitonic polariton, to create a platform for quantum computing. Exciton polaritons, which emerge from the strong-coupling of an exciton and a photon, exhibit Kerr nonlinearities typically three orders of magnitude stronger than that found in standard photonic nonlinear crystals.

The main objective of N-GAP is to further enhance the nonlinearity of the polariton systems to achieve the first experimental realisation of a deterministic CNOT gate based on polariton systems, which is the essential building block of a quantum computer.

DESCRIPTION

Scientific objectives- The post-doc will investigate the potential of optical non-linearities to perform energy-efficient quantum computing, amplification and measurements. She/he will build analytical models describing the joint dynamics of optical non-linearities and propagating pulses of light in the quantum regime of interaction. A fully Hamiltonian dynamics is targeted, unlocking access to light-matter entangled states and the possibility to explore various optimization regimes for the quantum processes at play. The post-doc will realize accurate energy balances between light and matter, and estimate energy costs of fundamental quantum processes, e.g. quantum gates and amplification.

Working environment- The research fellow will be hosted in the group of Alexia Auffèves in MajuLab, CQT, Singapore. The group is pioneer in the modelling of interactions between quantum emitters and propagating pulses of light. She/he will be involved in a network of collaborations with leading experimental groups in quantum computing with light. She/he will integrate the vibrant environment of the Centre for Quantum Technologies, a long-standing powerhouse of quantum. She/he will engage in the fast-paced Singaporean ecosystem, a multicultural hub and Asian leader in deep tech.

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

• PhD in quantum physics, with a focus on quantum optics and quantum open systems. Past work in the foundations of quantum measurement will be a strong plus.

Job Description

We are looking for a highly motivated individual with a passion for medical research to assist in the development and characterization of a novel antithrombotic blood vessel coupler for microsurgical anastomoses. We will perform selective grafting of an antithrombotic compound in order to prevent blood from clotting after implantation of the coupler. Subsequently, we will perform a preclinical in vivo study to evaluate the anticoagulant potential of the coupler.

The candidate will work with a team of expert advisors to design and fabricate materials, perform selective grafting of antithrombotic compounds, and test the resulting materials for flow dynamics and blood thrombosis response. Once the material is ready, we will continue with pre-clinical animal testing.

The Research Assistant will participate in seagrass research, with a specific focus on studying effects of nutrient enrichment on marine plants. Targeting researchers, scientists, and engineers (RSEs), the programme aims to develop industry relevant innovation and entrepreneurial skills through both formal and on-the-job training.

At EDDC, as Singapore’s national platform for drug discovery and development. We are committed to discover and develop novel therapeutics by working collaboratively with both public sector and industry partners to translate innovations from bench to clinic using industry relevant and cutting-edge technology platforms. This includes tackling complex and unmet medical challenges in disease areas such as oncology, fibrosis, infectious and autoimmune diseases. EDDC is now seeking under the IFP programme a highly skilled and motivated Bioinformatics Scientist/Engineer to join the Computational Biology group to drive data-driven discovery of therapeutic targets and clinically relevant biomarkers, achieving wholistic understanding of human disease biology and pathology.

This is an eighteen months on-the-job training programme that requires participation in and supporting cross-functional and collaborative drug discovery projects. By joining EDDC, the IFP candidate will be part of a dynamic, interdisciplinary team geared to enhance and facilitate the drug discovery journey through data harmonization and deconvolution, multimodal data analytics, and advanced machine learning. The role will also leverage strategic partnerships both locally and globally, to adopt a flexible approach in refining and advancing EDDC’s solutions.

Responsibilities:

1. Multimodal data analytics for target, biomarker discovery and MoA elucidation

o Develop and implement computational strategies for integrated analysis across diverse biological datasets, including but not limited to genetics/genomics, transcriptomics (bulk- and single-cell RNAseq) and proteomics data.o Employ state-of-the-art machine learning and AI techniques to uncover patterns in extensive biological datasets, developing predictive models that inform therapeutic strategies.o Collaborate with cross-functional colleagues to drive the data-driven discovery and prioritization of novel therapeutic targets and clinically relevant biomarkers, integrating advanced analytics to elucidate the molecular mechanisms of action.
