Research Associate Position in genome editing lab

The CRISPR and Genome Editing Lab led by Assistant Professor HU Chunyi, is a dynamic addition to the Department of Biological Sciences at the National University of Singapore. Currently, we are in search of a dedicated Research Associate to contribute to a research project focused on the study of CRISPR-Cas immunity systems and the development of genome editing tools.

We invite applications from highly motivated individuals with a background and/or keen interest in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Exceptional laboratory skills are a prerequisite and demonstrated experience in molecular/microbiology would be highly advantageous. The position entails active participation within our multidisciplinary research team, which is dedicated to advancing knowledge in biochemistry and cell biology.

Qualifications

• Qualifications / Discipline:
Candidate should hold or is going to obtain a Master's Degree in one of the disciplines below: Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Biophysics (Structural Biology), Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, or related fields.

• Skills:
Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills and ability to work well in an interdisciplinary team.
Very highly motivated and independent.
Organized, dedicated and reliable.

ISCE2 is a dynamic, multi-disciplinary team seeking a highly motivated Scientist/Emerging Group Leader to join us in developing next generation green and sustainable technology for the biomanufacturing of fine and specialty chemicals. We are looking for an individual with a passion for science and sustainability who has a proven track record in fermentation science, bioprocess development, and/or downstream purification for biomanufacturing of sustainable chemicals.

The successful candidate may be responsible for but not limited to:

· Lead a multi-disciplinary team of scientists and engineers towards research and innovation in fermentation bioprocess development and downstream purification for the sustainable bioproduction of chemicals

· Comfortable in the use of advanced technology, including AI/machine learning to help accelerate development

· Maintain accurate records, analyze data and present research findings at conferences, meetings, and to internal / external stakeholders

· Supervise and mentor junior researchers in the team

· Establish collaboration with internal and external partners to develop new, cutting-edge technologies and/or improve existing ones

· Devise proposals to seek competitive funding

· Write and publish high impact papers in peer-reviewed journals, alongside preparation of technical disclosures, patent applications

· Manage projects and resources to meet timelines and deliverables

· Represent the institute at industry meetings and events

· Other duties as assigned by the manager

Job Requirements:

· PhD in in Microbiology, Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering or Biological Engineering or its equivalent

· Strong background chemical / biological engineering, process design and/or biotechnology

· With 5 years of post-PhD experience preferred

· Experience with bioreactors

· Adaptable to team-oriented goals and requirements

· Rigorous data analysis, interpretation, analytical and problem-solving skills

· Excellent oral/written communication, documentation and organization skills

· Meticulous, attention to details and organized

· Ability to prioritize responsibilities and multi-task

ISCE2 is seeking a talented Research Engineer to be part of a dynamic, multi-disciplinary team to develop next generation green and sustainable technology for the biomanufacturing of fine and specialty chemicals. This position offers an opportunity to work bioprocess and bioengineering to develop

scalable technologies for applications in green chemicals biomanufacturing. The ideal candidate is passionate about engineering biology for science and sustainability, self-motivated, organised, detail-oriented, enjoy laboratory work, and has excellent communication and teamwork skills. The successful candidate may be responsible for but not limited to:

• Molecular biology with emphasis on molecular cloning and DNA assembly
• Perform protein expression in bacterial systems, including molecular cloning, fermentation in bioreactors/shake flasks, and protein separation and immunoassays
• Design, plan and execute experiments based on proposed project scope
• Analyze data, interpret results and troubleshoot
• Presentation at regular project meetings and summarize results in reports
• Presentation and review of relevant literature
• Assist in the preparation of scientific communications; publications, figures and posters
• Perform general lab housekeeping
• Other duties as assigned by the manager

Requirements:

• BSc or Masters degree with some laboratory experience, preferably in Microbiology, Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering or Biological Engineering.
• At least 5 years of experience
• Experience with bioreactors will be advantageous.
• Preferred hands-on experience with molecular cloning and bioanalytical techniques, such as PCR, SDS-PAGE, LC-MS, Western blot, ELISA or other immunoassays, etc.
• Team player who is self-motivated and enjoy applied research work in a multidisciplinary environment

Work Location: Cantoment/ Tg Pagar / Outram ( School)

Work Hours: Monday to Fridays: 8.00am to 2.30pm ( 30 minutes lunch)

Contract Period: 1 jan 2024 to 31 Dec 2024

Job Responsibilities:

Lab Support Services 

-Set up materials and equipment for day to day experiments and for practical exams.

-Ensure all practicals that take place in the labs run smoothly. Assist teachers to trouble-shoot where possible. Check on practicals once in a while when lessons are ongoing.

-Conduct safety review of labs under her charge once every 6 months and suggest recommendations to HOD to improve lab Safety.

Lab Maintenance

- Monitoring schedule of teachers coming in and out of the science rooms.

- Assist in procurement of science equipment & instrument. 

-Maintain science equipment and apparatus in the lab. 

-Maintain inventory record of science lab equipment. 

-Assist science teachers in lesson preparation (when necessary). 

Assist in the maintenance of the science lab, eco pond, sky garden and terrarium.  -Assist in the maintenance of living organisms in the lab (e.g. stick insects, hamsters, fish etc) 

-Support Science Department, to share experiences with HOD and teachers in the planning practical schedule and experiments requirement to enhance students’ experience. 

-Ensure the labs are ready for guest visits and meetings. Other Duties 

-Any other duties assigned by Principal, Vice-Principal and HOD/Science deemed necessary. 

-Assist teachers in running Science club activities and/or competition training

Job Requirement

(1) Qualification: ‘N’ or ‘O’ Level

(2) Skill & Experience: 

-Good interpersonal skills 

-Meticulous and organized. 

-Candidate with at least 2 years of experience working in Science laboratory is preferred
