A postdoctoral research fellow position in the areas of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) for spatial omics and precision medicine is available at the Loo Lab in the Bioinformatics Institute (BII), A*STAR, Singapore. The Ocular Epidemiological Research Group at SERI conducts ophthalmic epidemiologic research in Singapore and Asia under the Singapore Epidemiology of Eye Diseases (SEED) programme collectively involving over 10,000 study subjects, with comprehensive clinical, image and genetic data. One of the projects including SEED data is ‘Diabetes studY in Nephropathy And other Microvascular cOmplications (DYNAMO-II)’. DYNAMO-II aims to determine the longitudinal relationship between retinal imaging parameters and long-term risk and progression of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and determine the predictive value of retinal vascular imaging measures in identifying patients at risk of CKD, and other adverse outcomes including renal failure, cardiovascular disease and deaths using both data-derived machine learning and retinal image-based “deep learning” algorithms with validation in different local and international cohorts. DYNAMO also includes a clinical cohort that recruits diabetic patients from clinics to predict the progression of CKD.

A Senior/Principal Process Development Engineer is responsible for developing or overseeing the development of chemical processes including low carbon processes as well as monitoring, troubleshooting and optimizing processes in a pilot plant leading up to a technology transfer. He/she will perform process design, engineering and scale-up of in a Low-Carbon Technology Translational Testbed (LCT3) on Jurong Island leading up to a technology transfer. This role requires good understanding and knowledge of the underlying key process/chemical engineering and scientific principles of low carbon technologies and uses computer aided engineering tools such as simulators, process and plant engineering tools for process development and engineering. This individual thinks analytically to solve problems and improve existing methods and processes.

A Progamme Manager (PM) (Objective and Key Results Officer) position is available in the Computational Digital Pathology Lab (CDPL) at the Bioinformatics Institute (BII), Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR), Singapore. The AI-based Digital Pathology (AIDP) Program aims to develop and validate advanced AI and machine learning solutions, image processing, computer vision, and mathematical modelling for the pathological diagnosis and prognosis of cancer using digitized pathology slides, including both biopsy and whole standard slides.

The innovative AI-based Digital Pathology Diagnosis (AIDP) programme is a pioneering venture set to transform the landscape of AI pathological diagnosis and solve the global shortage of pathologists and increasing cancer cases with cutting-edge AI technologies. Key Skills and Responsibilities:

• Project Planning and Execution: Follow and dynamically adjust the project plan of AIDP programme, including milestones and deadlines. Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment and progress.
• Team Management and Leadership: Lead, mentor, and manage project teams, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment. Facilitate effective communication and teamwork among team members.
• Stakeholder Management: Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including funding bodies, research institutions, and clinical partners. Provide regular updates and reports on project status, risks, and outcomes.
• Objective and Key Results (OKRs) Management: Define and track OKRs to ensure the programme meets its strategic goals. Analyze performance data and make adjustments to keep the project on track.
• Risk Management: Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies. Monitor and address issues that could impact project success.
• Resource Management: Allocate and adjust resources effectively, ensuring that project needs are met within budget constraints. Manage procurement and logistics for project-related resources.

Requirements:

• Master/Bachelor degree in Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field with industrial and project management skill and experience. Additional qualifications in Project Management (e.g., PMP) are advantageous.
• Excellent writing skills, coupled with outstanding communication abilities.
• A strong team player with proven experience in managing large-scale research or development projects, preferably in the healthcare or AI fields.
• Strong background in data science, AI, machine learning, or digital pathology.

A Senior/Principal Process Development Engineer is responsible for developing or overseeing the development of chemical processes including low carbon processes as well as monitoring, troubleshooting and optimizing processes in a pilot plant leading up to a technology transfer. He/she will perform process design, engineering and scale-up of in a Low-Carbon Technology Translational Testbed (LCT3) on Jurong Island leading up to a technology transfer. This role requires good understanding and knowledge of the underlying key process/chemical engineering and scientific principles of low carbon technologies and uses computer aided engineering tools such as simulators, process and plant engineering tools for process development and engineering. This individual thinks analytically to solve problems and improve existing methods and processes.

Key Accountabilities

• Responsible for providing scientific and technical direction and/or development, design, and scale up of carbon capture, utilisation and low carbon hydrogen technologies
• Responsible for developing new projects, including timelines, milestones, methodological approaches, expected results and necessary resources.
• Responsible for the executing or planning/directing of laboratory-based or pilot-based experiments to support process development, scale-up campaigns and process optimisation leading up to technology transfer
• Lead or support multi-disciplinary team of scientist and engineers through technical challenges and contribute to the successful completion of projects
• Supervise and mentor junior process development scientists and engineers

JOB REQUIREMENTS

• Doctorate or Master’s degree in Chemical or Mechanical or other related engineering fields.
• Possess at least 10 years of experience in process development and engineering with good knowledge on process control and safety in the process or chemical industry
• Excellent working knowledge on various process technologies, scale-up & scale-down and process intensification methodologies or principles
• Has good working experience with relevant computer aided engineering tools including simulation (eg. Aspen Plus, AVEVA, Gproms etc.), and the use of detailed process models to support process design, scale-up and process optimisation during operations
• Experience in collaborating and has good appreciation with other related disciplines eg. electrical and instrumentation, automation, process safety etc.
• Ability to plan and/or execute experiments at laboratory and pilot scale (scale-up/scale-down) to support process development, troubleshooting and optimisation
• Working experience in a chemical production facility and familiarity with regulations, codes and industry best practices would be a bonus
• Working experience in process/plant engineering tools (eg. AutoCAD process/plant engineering, Aucotec Engineering Base, etc.) would be a bonus
• Possess technical leadership quality to lead team and/or supervise junior engineers
• Possess strong interpersonal, oral and written communication and organization skills
• Self-driven and meticulous individual who has the strong ability to multi-task and has good time management skills to deliver results under tight timelines
• Excellent written and oral communication skills for the timely documentation, presentation, and discussion of results in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary, team-based environment
