We are looking for a proactive and positive Editorial & Research Assistant to join our team. In this new role, you will work closely with DL colleagues, along with a dynamic group of external partners to support our projects. If you enjoy paying close attention to detail, are professional, discreet and meticulous in your work and have a flair and interest in writing, editing and research, this could be the role for you.
The Editorial & Research Assistant will provide support to the team through:
- Writing and editing texts for reports, books, articles and web
- Conducting image research and securing rights
- Conducting desktop research in support of publication development
- Proofreading documents
- Editing interview and event transcripts
- Participating in meetings with DL team / partners / clients, including note-taking
- Various administrative and logistical tasks as the need arises.
This is a 90% virtual role; the successful candidate will work independently from Singapore using their own laptop.This job description covers the main responsibilities and conveys the spirit of the sort of tasks that are anticipated proactively from the Editorial & Research Assistant. Other tasks may be assigned as necessary according to emerging organisational needs and the Assistant’s individual talents.
Required Skills and Competencies
- Minimum two years of working experience after completing a university degree in a relevant subject (e.g. Liberal Arts, English, Journalism, Media, Creative Writing). Superb knowledge of and love for the English language, with outstanding written and spoken communication skills.
- Demonstrable track record in writing, editing and proofreading in professional, academic or voluntary (e.g. an independent publication) settings.
- Proficiency in desktop and bibliographic research and fact-checking.
- Demonstration of initiative, proactiveness and planning; able to anticipate needs.
- Strong problem solving, prioritization, organizational and time management skills.
- Comfort alternating between independent work with light-touch guidance, andsprints of close team working.
- Able to maintain professionalism, composure and confidentiality under conditionsof stress (e.g. short time lines, multi-stakeholder management).
- Strong proficiency with Word/Pages/Google Docs, Google Slides, Excel required;Adobe Creative Suite a welcome bonus.
- Working knowledge and interest in creative industries, culture and sustainability isdesirable.
- Experience working with digital-first outputs (e.g. websites) is a plus.
Further Information
Working hours: Part time, 24 hours per week, for an initial six month period, with a possibleextension, starting from end February or start of March 2025.
Remuneration: SGD1,920/monthApplicants must legally reside in Singapore and be either Singaporean Citizens or Permanent Residents.
