The Centre for Population Health Research and Implementation (CPHRI) is a centralised platform for population health research, innovation, implementation and evaluation activities in SingHealth. Job Description

The Centre for Quantum Technologies (CQT) in Singapore, and MajuLab, the French-Singaporean international laboratory, are seeking a talented postdoctoral research fellow to conduct theoretical and numerical investigations on random quantum circuits and their connection with Kardar-Parisi-Zhang (KPZ) physics in quantum systems.

The KPZ equation, introduced in 1986 to describe the growth of rough surfaces, has since become a captivating area of research due to its remarkable universality. A recent article by Nahum et al. [PRX 7, 031016 (2017)] observation an interesting connection between the entanglement growth in random quantum Clifford circuits and KPZ phenomena. This project aims at exploring this connection more broadly, and to discover links with two other quantum platforms studied within the same project that also manifest KPZ physics – systems with Anderson localization and exciton-polariton condensates.

The Research Fellow’s primary focus will be on the random circuit aspects, but they can expect to have close interactions with team members from the other two platforms.

Job Requirements

The candidate should possess a solid academic track record and strong numerical simulation skills. Prior experience in quantum information and computation topics, especially in stabilizer simulations, would be preferred.

The appointee will join CQT at the National University of Singapore under the supervision of a group of researchers including Profs. Kwek Leong-Chuan, Hui Khoon Ng, Jiangbin Gong, Gabriel Lemarié, Maxime Richard, and Christian Miniatura. As a University of Applied Learning, SIT works closely with industry in our research pursuits. Our research staff will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT.

The primary responsibility of this role is to deliver on an industry innovation research project where you will be part of the research team to develop operation and planning method for onshore microgrid and charging infrastructure within the maritime electrification sector.

Key Responsibilities

• Participate in and manage the research project with Principal Investigator (PI), Co-PI and the research team members to ensure all project deliverables are met.
• Undertake these responsibilities in the project:
  1. Develop planning optimization method for onshore microgrid and charging infrastructure
  2. Analyze and develop mathematical models for shore loads and charging demand profiles for electric fleets. This part of the work requires close collaboration with fleet owners based on their needs and operational requirements.
  3. Analyze charging impact on distribution networks and provide design optimization for charging operators and shore microgrid owners
  4. Assist supervising student helpers or final year project students participating in the project
• Carry out Risk Assessment, and ensure compliance with Work, Safety and Health Regulations.
• Coordinate procurement and liaison with vendors/suppliers.
• Work independently, as well as within a team, to ensure proper operation and maintenance of equipment.

Job Requirements

• Have relevant competence in the areas of microgrid/multi-energy Operation and planning, machine learning and data analysis in the field of power system applications.
• Have a degree in Electrical//Electronic Engineering or relevant fields. Possessing a Master’s or PhD degree will be advantageous.
• Proven track record of high quality journal papers published in the relevant field will be highly advantageous.
• Knowledge of optimisation algorithm development in the field of power systems will be advantageous.
• Familiarity with optimisation using Gurobi, Cplex and etc. is a must.

Research focus on environmental metagenomics viral surveillance:

Uncovering viral diversity (eukaryotic viruses) in environmental associated microbiomes.

Isolating and studying viruses for potential surveillance.

Responsibilities:

• To process synthetic and real environmental samples (e.g., wastewater) for benchmarking of protocols, validation of novel viral genomes and documentation of experimental workflows.
• Provide technical and wet-lab support to the team?s research activities.
• Follow analytic procedures and instrumental operation guidelines, plan and execute experiments independently.
• Analyze data, prepare and present progress reports, and manage research data and notes.
