Job Description

This person will be working at the NUS Centre for Biomedical Ethics on the CENTRES (Clinical Ethics Network + Research Ethics Support) project. CENTRES was established in 2009 and has been funded by the Ministry of Health since its founding. CENTRES is a networking and training platform to enhance capabilities of healthcare professionals and clinical ethics committees in Singapore.

We offer a range of educational programmes targeted at members of clinical ethics committees, and more broadly healthcare professionals. These programmes are delivered fully online, hybrid (online and in-person) and fully in-person. This person will report to Dr Sumytra Menon, CENTRES Co-Director, and work closely with CBmE’s Head of Administration, Ms Connie Wu.

The main purpose of the job is for the person to provide effective administrative support to enable the CENTRES team to carry out its educational programmes and build its networks. A sliver of the administrative work will be department related.

The position is for 2 years, with the possibility of renewal if performance is satisfactory.

Responsibilities

The candidate needs to be highly proficient in blood taking, capable of successful draws even from patients with hard-to-locate veins, and also high volume settings with up to 60 patients per hour. Additional responsibilities may also include height and weight measurement, taking blood pressure, as well as dispatch of collected samples to the diagnostic laboratory. Location will vary on a job-by-job basis depending on customer requirements, but hourly rate will factor in travel time and costs. Some examples could include clinics (locum arrangement), home blood draws, research study support, or mobile health screening events.

As the jobs will often be offsite, the candidate must be able to perform the duties independently. In addition, the candidate must have a strong sense of professionalism and responsibility, and be counted upon to fulfill a job once accepting it, or if unavailable to due to unforeseen circumstances, provide notice as early as possible.

This opportunity would be idea for healthcare workers with prior blood taking experience in a high volume setting (e.g., hospital laboratory or health screening clinic), who now seek a flexible work schedule with partial income while keeping vocational skills well-practised and current. The candidate must have good availability on most weekday mornings, which is when most of the jobs would be scheduled.

The availability of jobs may vary depending on customer demand, and hence candidates need to be comfortable with variable monthly income. However, the compensation rate will be competitive on a per hour basis. Depending on performance, a retainer arrangement may be explored (i.e., fixed base salary per month, in addition to compensation per job).
