The Aviation Innovation Research (AIR) Lab

The joint CAAS-Thales innovation lab known as ‘AIR Lab’ started to operate on 1st November 2019 with the objective to develop Proof of Concepts (POCs) or Minimum Viable Products (MVPs) of advanced and open technologies for future Air Traffic Management (ATM). Currently, the joint lab employs a team of 40 Thales engineers and 12 CAAS engineers and air traffic controllers operating in a vibrant ecosystem involving a number of Singaporean SMEs and start-ups, as well as key research institutes.

Thales engineers include 10 domain experts – with more than 10 years of experience – coming from Thales ATM centres of competence in France and Australia. These experts are coaching both the local Thales and CAAS engineers. 

The POCs and MVPs are co-developed with the CAAS engineers who have access to the same development tools and environment used by the Thales Engineers (provided by the Singapore branch of Thales Digital Factory). The POCs and MVPs are defined in collaboration with CAAS air traffic controllers through iterative workshops.

AIR Lab research outcomes will feed the next generation of products, including clearly disruptive outcomes addressing Safety and Security for Open architecture, data driven ATM Twin, Green Aviation, Trajectory Based Operations. 

As the AIR Lab was recently extended for another 3 years, 4 work streams are now embarked: 

Regional Experimental Platform, FF-ICE/TBO, Green Aviation, Future-proof Interoperable Platform-Agnostic, Safe and Secure Platforms.

AIR Lab 2.0 continues to benefit from research conducted in Europe through new architecture research which, among other objectives, aims at meeting much stricter safety standards for ground ATM systems in development by the European Aviation Safety Authority (EASA). This breakthrough architecture study is co-funded by the French government (CASSIOPEA).

Regional Experimental Platform (REP) has been initiated in AIR Lab 1.0, and has the view to addressing regional needs in coordination with the SESAR 3 activities conducted in AMS France.

Position Overview

The Reality Solutions group at Autodesk is responsible for the development of next generation technologies to increase the ease of use and value of reality capture data in building, construction and infrastructure workflows. We employ machine learning, computer vision and computational geometry to solve complex problems, tackle data and performance at massive scales, while hiding this complexity from our users when they use it in our desktop and cloud services.

We are seeking an experienced engineer to help build out our reality data feature recognition and extraction platform. We are looking for a passionate, creative and collaborative person who can bring their experience of developing production-grade ML systems to the team. We value your knowledge in applying appropriate machine learning, deep learning, predictive modelling and optimization to prototype, build and deploy solutions to new problem spaces.

Responsibilities

• Research, design and building machine learning and deep learning solutions to new problems

• Lead machine learning based research with cross-functional teams to discover new business opportunities

• Advocate and implement the best practices, in terms of knowledge, technology and process, to ensure the team is working effectively to deliver customer value while also constantly learning to remain up to date in a rapidly changing domain

• Collaborate effectively with product management, engineering, design and other stakeholders to deliver products that have a quantifiable impact on Autodesk's business

Minimum Qualifications

• A degree in a related field (Data Science, Computer Vision, Computational Geometry) or equivalent professional experience

• Experience with Reality Capture technologies (Point clouds, 3D photogrammetry, large scale data & rendering)

• Proven track record overseeing machine learning projects at all stages, from initial conception to implementation and optimization

• Collaborative, respectful, and inclusive engineer who is interested to work in a diverse and global team

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelors/MS/Ph.D. in a related field (Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or a quantitative-related field)

• 3+ years' experience in developing and shipping machine learning, natural language processing or deep learning models

• Experience in Python

• Experience in deep learning libraries, such as PyTorch and TensorFlow

• Experience working with big data platforms (Hadoop, Spark, Hive) and orchestration frameworks (Airflow) and analytic environments (SageMaker)

• Experience working with AWS services like ECR, S3 & Lambda

• Experience in data pre-processing and building ML pipelines

• Strong communicator who can explain complex topics to both a technical and non-technical audience

• Excellent communication skills, project management skills, and technical management skills

Job Description     

As a Software Engineer for Private Equity & Real Estate Technology, you will be part of a dynamic team of full-stack engineers in designing, building, deploying, testing, and supporting applications and related services hosted on AWS. Collaborating with business stakeholders, you will drive business value while ensuring the delivery of high-quality code. You’ll tackle a variety of problems from scaling out infrastructure to promoting business efficiency through automating business processes. You’ll devise elegant solutions to Blackstone's most important problems and put your own best ideas to work in an entrepreneurial environment inside one of the world's most successful companies.

Our internal applications leverage a highly scalable microservices architecture deployed on cloud-hosted containerized environment. Key technologies in our stack include NextJS/React, FastAPI, Python, C#, Terraform, SQL, AWS ECS, AWS Lambda, AWS Step Function, AWS DynamoDB, AWS S3, CI/CD tooling (e.g., Jenkins), and data warehouse solutions like Snowflake.

Responsibilities:

• Developing and maintaining software solutions using languages such as Python, C#, TypeScript/JavaScript, and SQL, ensuring high code quality, scalability, reliability, and security.

• Creating, deploying, and maintaining APIs and microservices to integrate with front-end and third-party applications.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field.

• 1+ years of software engineering experience, with proficiency in C# and/or Python

• Experience working with databases (relational and/or NoSQL) and cloud technologies (preferably AWS), is highly desirable.

• Knowledge of infrastructure as code tools like Terraform and containerization technologies like Docker.

• Understanding of Agile methodologies, especially Scrum, and ability to manage projects from start to finish.

• Deep understanding of RESTful API design, development, and scalable microservice architectures.

• Ability to develop scalable, secure, and maintainable code with strong object-oriented programming experience.

• Eager to learn, excellent problem-solving abilities, and a strong attention to detail.

• Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, along with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, are essential.

• Self-starter with an entrepreneurial attitude, willing to teach, mentor others, and learn new technologies.
