What does a construction engineer do?

A construction engineer assists with construction projects to ensure that teams build in accordance with the proper plans and specifications. They also help maintain and repair infrastructure systems, such as roads, dams, water supply systems and buildings. They work with engineers and construction crews to organize and complete projects. Some of their additional responsibilities might include:

• Developing construction project budgets, ordering materials and collecting and organizing resources and personnel, including structural engineering employees, tools, machines and physical materials
• Operating machinery and using tools to design complex structures like hydraulic systems and using computer software to plan and design projects and conduct risk analyses
• Overseeing building progress and enforcing safety regulations at construction sites and submitting building permits to the proper authorities

Responsibilities:

• Review, coordinate with Professional Engineer and finalise technical drawings for assigned projects given by the Facilities Manager
• Ensure, administer and comply with safety & health procedures at the project site at all times
• Schedule work progress from commencement to final commissioning
• Co-ordinate work schedule with sub-contractors to ensure that projects are executed effectively within the scheduled timelines
• Ensure that all plant facilities are properly set up, in accordance to the design plan, before handing the site over to the Operations team
• Carry out testing and commissioning of the newly erected batching plant site before handing the plant over to the Operations team.
• Regularly update progress status and matters of concern to the Assistant Facilities Manager

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field
• 1-2 years of experience working in engineering
• Firm grasp of engineering concepts and experience designing mechanical systems and products
• Experience using AutoCAD
• Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
• Exceptional technical and problem-solving skills and reasoning ability
• Able to work independently with a positive attitude under tight schedules
• Estate management preferred
• Good communication and interpersonal skills
• Good knowledge of local safety regulations
• Possess a Class 3 driving license

Make an Impact by:

• Partner with Engineering team and the Vendors to develop and validate network design for infrastructure and services,
• Manage the resources required for the service integration and network consolidation projects and be responsible for the execution of the projects’ implementation.
• Lead the team to operate the transport network.
• Monitor the network resources, plan and execute the network changes of expansion, optimization, and upgrade, to meet the service needs and requirements.
• Take the proactive measures to prevent service difficulties and quick reaction with the relevant stake holders for efficient solutions for fault cases, as well the follow-ups of remedies.
• Validate and review the MOP (Method of Procedure) for each Change Request to ensure the smooth service change.
• Service impact analyse on scheduled service changes, faults, outage, and inform the relevant stake holders.
• Provide the network monitoring reports, the network health reports, and analyse the trends and provide suggestions for improvement.
• Prepare the budgets and track the expenditures.
• Perform the other duties and responsibilities assigned by supervisor.

Skills for Success:

• Possess Degree of Engineering in Telecommunications, Electrical or Electronic or relevant,
• 2 to 3 years of relevant working experience in Telecom industry.
• Good technical skills of IP concept of LAN, WAN, VPN, and the relevant network protocols, such OSPF, BGP, ISIS, LDP, DHCP and Dark Fibre Structured Cabling, etc…,
• Project experience with multi-vendor interoperability and development for provisioning of L2 and L3 services.
