1.1. Broad Functions:
As part of the technical services team, the Chemist is responsible for managing and control of the lab polymerization facilities. They need to design, optimizing for creating polymer materials and support the production processes such as scale up, trouble shooting and improvement.
1.2. Job Description / Responsibilities:
1.2.1. Development
1.2.1.1. Design and synthesize new polymers with desired properties for various applications.
1.2.1.2. Conduct experiments to understand the relationship between polymer structure and its physical and chemical characteristics.
1.2.1.3. Analyse and interpret data from various techniques like spectroscopy, chromatography, and thermal analysis to characterize polymers.
1.2.2. Polymer Production and Processing
1.2.2.1. Develop and optimize production processes with productivity and cost effectiveness.
1.2.2.2. Troubleshooting issues arising during mass production and suggest solutions.
1.2.2.3. Collaborate with related department to ensure smooth integration of new polymers into existing production lines.
1.2.3. Material Characterization and Testing
1.2.3.1. Perform various tests to evaluate the mechanical, thermal, electrical, and other properties of polymers.
1.2.3.2. From the test results to make a judgement the suitability of polymers for specific application.
1.2.3.3. Proceed with modification to polymer formulation based on performance needs.
1.2.4. Communication and collaboration
1.2.4.1. Document research findings and experimental procedures in clear and concise report.
1.2.4.2. Present research results to colleagues, management, or external audiences.
1.2.4.3. Collaborate effectively with related parties to achieve project goals and to resolve issues.
1.2.4.4. Support training new products/process modification for related parties.
1.2.4.5. Train basic knowledge in lab for new staff
1.2.5. Laboratory Management
1.2.5.1. Safe operation and up-keep 5S of laboratory.
1.2.5.2. Training of new lab staff.
1.2.5.3. Lab work planning and scheduling.
1.2.5.4. Equipment & spare parts management.
1.2.5.5. Maintain chemical inventory.
1.2.6. Others
1.2.6.1. Perform any other tasks assigned by the manager
1.3. Requirements:
1.3.1. Degree in chemical engineering, Polymer synthesis chemistry, or equivalent.
1.3.2. Fresh graduate - Junior Chemist
1.3.3. At least 3 years of relevant working experience – Chemist
1.3.4. Understand the hazardous of materials from SDS + Singapore regulation and judge an appropriate instruct.
1.3.5. Basic knowledge and practical experience for chemical experiments.
1.3.6. In depth knowledge of polymerization mechanism and kinetics.
1.3.7. Expertise in polymer characterization evaluation techniques.
1.3.8. Operate spectroscopy, chromatography and thermal analysis.
1.3.9. Ability to interpret and analyse data.
1.3.10. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
1.3.11. Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues.
1.3.12. Understanding of relevant safety regulations and best practices.
1.3.13. Project management skills.
1.3.14. Intermediate MS Office skills
1.3.15. Self-disciplined as a role model for employees.
