Position Objective

The Student Support Department (SSD) is looking for a highly qualified, licensed Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) with previous experience in school-based therapy to join our expanding team of multi-disciplinary professionals. Utilizing a MTSS (Multi-Tiered Systems of Support) Model, the primary role of the SLT is to provide a range of interventions and consultation to the school community to increase students’ speech and language development across all learning environments. 


Responsibilities

The job holder’s responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young person’s for whom they are responsible, or with whom they come into contact will be to adhered to and ensure compliance with the relevant Cognita Safeguarding; Child Protection Policy and Procedures at all times. Collaborates with related (internal/external) services providers  

Establishes and maintains ongoing professional collaboration with service providers on and off campus to maximize student impact on speech and language development  

Regularly assesses students’ speech and language needs within the school environment   

Clearly evidences clinical reasoning through delivery and interpretation of assessment  

Collects and analyzes screening and progress monitoring data to identify student need, modify intervention, and report progress to parents, faculty, staff, and administration  

Summarizes assessment results and incorporates information into an appropriate support plan  

Serves as a case manager for students receiving support services   

Gathers relevant background information related to students’ speech and language needs  

Maintains updated and accurate student files which adhere to high levels of confidentiality  

Coordinates, facilitates, and maintains records on meetings with parents, teachers, and internal/external service providers  

Offers professional development to the wider school community  

Develops and facilitates training for faculty, staff, and parents related to class-wide and home prevention and intervention strategies 


Position Requirements

Minimum of 3 years of experience working with children as an SLT with relevant qualifications  

Exceptional interpersonal communication and professional collaboration skills  

Must demonstrate flexibility, strong work habits, and a positive attitude  

Strong organizational skills and excellent command of the English language  

Proficiency in using computers and other forms of technology  

Strong references and attendance record 


Qualifications

Educational degree from an accredited speech and language training program

Clinical Care

• Is responsible for compliance of all occupational therapy standards as stipulated by the Ministry of Health and Allied Health Professions Council (AHPC)
• Carry out assessment on residents as part of the admission assessment and conduct regular routine assessment on in-house residents who may require occupational therapy or rehabilitation service.
• Recommend appropriate OT programmes and activities for residents.
• Provide leadership to the therapy staff to ensure safe and quality resident care, and in compliance to standards. Is responsible for the supervision, evaluation and disciplining of staff in her/ his team
• Promote evidence-based practices on therapy services
• Ensure written policies, procedures and work process are available and up to date to guide OT-related therapy services
• Evaluate and ensure that OT-related therapy services are being delivered in accordance to policies, guidelines and procedures
• Assist in the implementation of resident’s discharge plan to ensure smooth transition back to the community
• Provide training for caregivers in preparation for resident’s discharge back to the community.
• Monitor OT-related therapy service quality performance indicators and develop action plan for continuous improvement.
• Keep good records of all services performed and submit weekly case reports to the Nursing Home Managers. A monthly consolidated report of workload statistics and other concerns to do with service standards would be required to be submitted to the Manager.

Quality

• Review and update therapy services workflow, policies and procedures
• Ensure team members are familiar with the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and all emergency protocols
• Work with nursing team, other allied health professionals and support care team to coordinate, conduct and facilitate quality improvement initiatives and continuous improvement projects
• Maintain systematic inventory control and maintenance of equipment to achieve optimal utilisation and ensure equipment is safe for use
• Coordinate, manage and evaluate OT-related therapy services to ensure the provision of safe, effective and quality care to residents

Training & Development

• Direct and facilitate therapy aides’ development, skills and competency upgrading through various opportunities
• Teach, mentor and supervise therapy aides in performing the various prescribed occupational therapy services and programmes
• Conduct regular and on-going assessment of therapy aides’ competencies to ensure achievement of targets set and/or expected competency levels
• Orientate and appraise newly joined staff members during their induction
• Assist the Rehab Manager in identifying, planning and making decisions to meet training and developmental needs of therapy aides

Administration

• Utilise performance management and counselling skills effectively to motivate staff to perform at their optimal level and ensure care delivered is in compliance to standards of practice
• Ensure the safe storage of all confidential files, records, documents; and that residents confidentiality is maintained at all times
• Ensure that effective and cooperative working relationships are maintained within the Therapy team, and between internal and external customer groups
• Oversee the administration of the therapy gym, station, equipment and all relevant facilities. To report any faults to the manager. Ensure proper documentation and billing for residents.
• Maintain an inventory list of therapy equipment and ensure regular maintenance is done
• Perform such other duties and responsibilities that may be assigned from time to time by the Administrator.

Qualifications

• Candidate must possess a recognised qualification in Occupational Therapy and fully registered with AHPC, Singapore.
• At least 2 year(s) of working experience in a healthcare environment.

Music therapy is based on the development of a relationship between the therapist and client, who communicate through music-making. Music therapists do not teach the client to sing or play an instrument. They work with clients either in groups or on a one-to-one basis.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but not limited to the following:

• Providing music therapy sessions;

• Planning, reviewing and assessing therapy sessions to monitor effectiveness and to aid the planning of subsequent sessions;
• Actively participating in sessions through music-making, singing and listening;
• Encouraging clients to take part in the session, and supporting them by responding musically;
• Encouraging clients to use a range of accessible musical instruments (such as percussion) and their own voice to express themselves;
• Helping clients explore the world of sound and to create a musical language of their own;
• Improvising with music as a reaction to what the client is communicating in order to enhance the individual nature of the relationship;
• Supporting the client's creative development and facilitating positive changes in their behaviour and well-being;
• Helping the client develop an increased self-awareness;
• Assessing the musical and non-musical behaviours of the client;
• Writing and maintaining case notes and reports;
• collaborating with the transdisciplinary team to better support the client's needs;
• reporting progress to families, carers, relevant agencies or professional staff;
• maintaining musical instruments and music therapy equipment.

Music therapists working in a clinical setting may spend a lot of time liaising with professional colleagues engaged in the care and development of their clients.

• Master of Arts in Music Therapy from an accredited institution
• Registration with relevant Professional Body or Music Therapy Association

• Able to work well with other professionals as part of a transdisciplinary team
• Good interpersonal and communication skills
