Marketing & Communications Executive / Manager

MARKETING & COMMUNICATIONS EXECUTIVE / MANAGER

As part of the Marketing and Communications team, you will report to the Publisher. You will lead the development and execution of comprehensive and brand-appropriate marketing and social media campaigns, and will play a key role in enhancing our brand’s visibility locally, regionally, and internationally. You will work closely with the Editorial, Business Development, and Design teams and will also be responsible for overseeing a team of marketing and communications professionals. You will be part of a small but dynamic publishing team, and will be an integral part of our work process. MAIN ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES:

MARKETING STRATEGY

  • Research, develop, and implement comprehensive and brand-appropriate marketing strategies and campaigns to promote our comics and expand our market presence. This includes defining target audiences, setting clear objectives, and determining key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Plan, coordinate, and implement marketing campaigns across various channels, including digital, print, social media, email, and events.
  • Monitor and analyse campaign performance to make data-driven adjustments and improvements.

DIGITAL AND SOCIAL MEDIA MARKETING

  • Lead and monitor all company social media accounts, including but not limited to Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and other emerging platforms. Stay up-to-date on digital marketing trends and technologies.
  • Build and maintain a content calendar that outlines a consistent posting schedule across multiple social media platforms.
  • Plan visually appealing content and write compelling copy for various marketing channels, such as blog posts, social media updates, press releases, and promotional materials.
  • Guide the Marketing & Design Assistant and Design team to conceptualise, develop, edit, publish, and share engaging content (e.g., text, images, videos) that resonates with the target audience.

BRAND MANAGEMENT

  • In collaboration with the lead in-house Designer, ensure consistent brand messaging and visual identity across all marketing materials.
  • Maintain and enforce brand guidelines to maintain brand integrity.

PUBLIC RELATIONS

  • In collaboration with the Business Development Manager, build and maintain relationships with media outlets, journalists, partners, and influencers.
  • Prepare and distribute press releases and media kits.
  • Handle crisis communication and manage reputation issues proactively.

BUDGET MANAGEMENT

  • Develop and efficiently manage the marketing and communications budget, ensuring that resources are allocated effectively to achieve marketing objectives and deliver a positive ROI.

ANALYTICS AND REPORTING

  • Use analytics tools to track and measure the effectiveness of marketing campaigns.
  • Provide regular reports and insights to the Publisher and Business Development team.

TEAM LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT

  • For the managerial position, lead and mentor a team of marketing and communications professionals while fostering a collaborative and creative work environment that encourages innovation and excellence.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

  • 3-5 years of experience in marketing with a proven track record of successful marketing campaigns, brand management, and social media strategy. Candidates with five or more years of experience will be considered for the managerial position.
  • Excellent knowledge of the book and/or comics industry and with a passion for comics and graphic novels. Candidates without comic industry experience should demonstrate a willingness to learn.
  • Strong knowledge of content writing and content strategy with experience and interest in using storytelling as a narrative tool to communicate a message through marketing assets.
  • Excellent written and verbal communicator, with the ability to talk to and network with a variety of people from different backgrounds.
  • Diplomatic and tactful in dealing with stakeholders, partners, followers, and influencers. Mindful of cultural differences that might exist regionally and internationally.
  • Confident, approachable, and professional, with the ability to cultivate strong, genuine, and long-lasting relationships with stakeholders, partners, followers, and influencers.
  • Positive outlook, with the ability to adapt to dynamic, fast-paced environments and situations, both on and offline. Willingness to learn and adapt to changing environments and market landscapes.
  • Proficiency in Google Suite, digital marketing tools, social media platforms, and analytics.Good problem-solving skills, with the ability to be proactive, and handle uncertainty and ambiguity.
  • Detailed and organised with the ability to multitask.
  • Willing to attend industry conferences, events, and networking opportunities to represent Difference Engine and establish valuable connections within the comics, books, and publishing scene. Occasional travel may be required.
