DIRECTOR OF TECHNOLOGY & INNOVATION

Position Description

The Director of Technology & Innovation will serve as a liaison between the Office of Learning, Department of Technology and division leadership to ensure alignment and coordination of the development, implementation, and monitoring of our technology and innovation programs in support of SAS2027.

The Director of Technology & Innovation works with the divisional Technology & Innovation Coordinators, the Technology Department, and PLC coaches to provide oversight on P-12 alignment with Technology, Computer Science & Robotics, professional development to faculty, and helps support PLC coaches provide high-quality coaching to teachers.

This position will provide leadership to enable SAS to provide each student with an exemplary American educational experience with an international perspective through a comprehensive and purposeful integration of technology into the learning processes. This position will report directly to the Executive Director of Teaching and Learning and serve as a member of the Office of Learning team.

Position Qualifications

  • Degree in Education or a related field (Bachelor, Master, Doctorate)
  • Teacher Certification
  • 5 years of classroom teaching experience
  • 3 years demonstrated success providing Educational Technology leadership and/or equivalent roles
  • Proven ability to work with students, teachers, administrators, parents and peers

The responsibilities of the position include but will not be limited to those on the list that follows:

Strategic Leadership

  • Carry out, represent and promote SAS’s vision, mission and core values.
  • Promote and prioritize diversity, equity, and inclusion in the implementation and use of technology across all school programs.
  • Collaborate extensively with school leaders, including the Superintendent, Deputy Superintendent, and various department heads to provide insightful leadership to the on-going development, implementation and evaluation of the educational technology strand of the SAS Strategic Plan.
  • Co-lead the Technology Leadership Team, which includes academic leaders and technology coordinators and members of IT operations team, to carry out annual plans and oversee the school's digital strategy.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Information Technology to work closely with the office of learning leadership and strategy teams to develop short-term and long-term digital strategy and a shared technology vision aligned with the school’s strategic direction.
  • Build and maintain relationships across academic and operational teams to ensure school wide priorities are captured in the technology plan and related to the educational technology budget.
  • Lead the design of the digital ecosystem and functionality for all phases of the campus redesign to ensure optimal educational technology opportunities for students and staff.
  • Analyze and evaluate existing practices to identify areas for improvement or enhancement, and implement ways to introduce them into the school’s future across all divisions.
  • Serve as a liaison with the department of Information Technology to integrate digital technologies into curriculum and (formative) assessment data.
  • Report regularly on innovation/technology progress and goal adaptation to school leaders and the technology and innovation team.
  • Ensure that all curricular and programmatic reviews conducted by the Office of Learning attend to the education technology implications and innovations connected to the area of focus for the given review.

Administrative Leadership

  • Present new ideas and approaches, facilitate learning sessions, and support effective communication surrounding the use of technology to multiple stakeholder groups and individuals.
  • Actively participate in the planning of a comprehensive orientation program to ensure that all stakeholders are introduced to relevant technology and to provide ongoing programs of support in collaboration with the department of technology.
  • In collaboration with the Director of Information Technology, ensure that SAS maintains the technology infrastructure sufficient to support the introduction of an integrated data and management system, and related business office operations.
  • Conduct an annual review to ensure that the school’s technology and innovation vision is being met and evaluate the effectiveness of this vision.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Information Technology and Office of Learning staff to develop processes for evaluation of all existing and new digital platforms, IT tools and programs (databases, programs and applications), apps and subscriptions in order to identify innovation/technology trends in education and business to pilot, implement and consolidate at SAS.
  • Provide oversight and guidance for our adoption, maintenance, and use of standardized assessment, grading, reporting and survey platforms.

Learning Leadership

  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders to promote an environment where creative and interdependent use of educational technology flourishes to support student learning.
  • Identify new and emerging educational technologies for the express purpose of applying these tools to support student and faculty learning, growth and development.
  • Model effective uses of educational technology and coach teachers and other members of the school community in the effective use of educational technology to promote student learning and ensure that students have appropriate access to technology that enhances their ability to develop their academic and personal learning interests.
  • Ensure that information and digital literacy standards are seamlessly woven into the curriculum.
  • Serve as the program lead for TCR to ensure alignment across divisions and the implementation of TCR renewal plan.
  • Lead the development and interdisciplinary implementation of technology into all curriculum, including but not limited to Learning Management Systems, P-12 TCR/STEM and Artificial Intelligence.
  • Lead the P-12 Libraries, Library program and librarians and assess needs to develop long-range plans for library media and instructional technology programs in collaboration with school leadership.
  • Supervise the evaluation of the instructional technology programs, including assessment of resources, equipment, space, curriculum, services and usage.
  • Recruit and supervise Data Analytics Specialist, Technology & Innovation Coordinators and other teams..
  • Coordinate the design, delivery and assessment of relevant and meaningful professional development for members of the SAS faculty and staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Teaching and Learning.
