Qualities and Responsibilities
A person in this role is responsible for designing sections of electronics projects that decide the logic behind the central operations and communication to/from the PCB.
Key Responsibility
1. Designing around product and industry-relevant chips and components, specifically chosen for the products’ functionality. Be able to theorize the complete electrical/electronic network within a vehicle, logically prepare schematics for effecting such a network, work with application engineers to choose components for use, and create and evaluate the PCBs being prudent and future-proof in the design and implementation.
2. Work with and learn from chip manufacturers on best practices, especially on automotive design, while being efficient and not re-inventing the wheel, where unnecessary.
3. Detailed studies on why certain solutions are implemented, along with industry experts. Evaluate design from functionality to manufacturing/testing aspects including ESD, vibration and other automotive standards.
4. Knowledgeable in:
a. automotive standards for electronics.
b. working on mass manufacturable PCB designs, considering long term use, efficiency, thermal management, and ease of assembly.
5. If necessary, in a shared capacity with other roles:
a. manage the electronics department within the company
b. create procedures and standards for this department, and
c. be able to lead complete electrical and electronics projects from start to finish.
Job Requirements
1. 5+ years of industry experience in electronics design (automotive and/or EV is a big plus)
2. At least a Bachelor’s degree in the relevant field (electrical engineering)
3. Good communication skills, exhibit strong leadership qualities and show initiative. Be able to think and build from first principles, while also not “reinventing the wheel”
