This involves working directly with teachers and learners, and offering support and guidance to curriculum planning meetings and whole staff professional learning and development meetings. The Learning Support Integrator will spend the majority of their time collaborating with teachers in the classroom, focused on ways to enhance learning for all. This collaboration may involve: observing, coaching, modelling for, team-teaching with, and offering "just in time" guidance to teachers.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with teachers to build capacity and awareness of pedagogical strategies to support learners with diverse needs.
  • Support teachers to differentiate and build an inclusive culture within the classroom.
  • Interpret specialist reports and produce learner profiles for teachers.
  • Work with parents, teachers and learners to develop collaborative action plans.
  • Make recommendations on admission applications.

A TYPICAL DAY

No two days are the same in this exciting diverse role. I am in school today at 7:30 am to prepare for an 8 am parent meeting. This is to review progress and collaborate around next steps. These meetings with parents are always powerful as they strengthen the home-school partnership. Next up is a review of some admissions applications to make recommendations on. A year group meeting follows, which involves facilitating discussions around a number of learners. After this is a team teaching session to model specific strategies outlined in the collaborative action plan. This is followed by lunch duty, which is a good opportunity to mingle with the learners. After lunch, is our weekly Support Services team meeting to review learners and discuss concerns and interventions. Today I have a CCA (co-curricular activity) after school. I’ll be taking a group of learners mountain biking. It is always fun getting the learners out and about.
