EOS invites applications for the position of Research Associate for a research project involving the study of earthquake induced landslide, soil liquefaction hazards. We are looking for someone with a passion for making Singapore and Southeast Asia a safer and more sustainable place in the face of tectonic and volcanic hazards.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with geophysical field preparation, sample collection, measurement and interpretation
- Data mining and compilation of past and historical hazard records from database and literature
- Numerical modelling and analysis of ground motion, landslide and liquefaction
- Hazard mapping of a region, validated with past case studies
- Guide and train undergraduates and new group members who join the group
- Arrange logistics and handle administrative requirements associated with field work, locally and overseas
- Assist with procurement of equipment and supplies, and similar administrative tasks
- Assist with obtaining research permits, and writing and submitting quarterly reports
- Participate in the preparation of presentations for conferences and manuscripts for publication
Job Requirements
- Master’s degree in engineering, geography, geological, environmental sciences or relevant field
- Some experience working on the above tasks shown above in the duties and responsibilities section
- Willing to conduct field work in rural and urban environments, locally and overseas
- Experience in geographical information system (GIS) and/or engineering modelling software
- Strong verbal, written and time management skills
- Willingness to work on occasional early mornings, evenings, or weekends (would be compensated with time off in lieu as appropriate)
