The Application Engineer reports to the Engineering Manager and is responsible for performing engineering work on upgrading of governor control of prime movers, industrial/process automation and generator excitation system. The job requires the application of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria in carrying out customer requirements, specifications and proposals. This position also requires him/her to travel to site to commission the system and provide training to the customers.
Essential Functions
- Ability to recognize and evaluate customer’s P&IDs and implement the right solution to meet customer’s requirement.

- And design reviews internally to support resolution of technical and programming issues.
- Participate and complete action items as directed by cross-functional team members.
- Test or validate the equipment for the customer’s application or to meet a marketing specification for standard product offerings.
- May participate in international and multi-site projects.
- May be requested to support engineering team in the selection of/and learn the functionality/interface of third-party hardware.
- Support project team in translation of customer specifications and provide input to team and possible hardware or software tool selections.
- May be required to assist in resolution of issues for field engineering at customer’s site.
- Learn through mentoring how to create standard report format to document activities and resolution to open issues or for potential customer submittal.
- Participates and implements process improvements company wide.
- earn GAP application software and other software tools to support project.
Other Functions
- May be requested to be involved in missions for other functions such as: Field Service as needed, initial investigation for returned unit, Help desk, manual translation, drafting, etc.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Effective time management skills.
- Basic understanding of organizational structure and flow of information in the company.
- Fundamental knowledge of commercial and in-house design packages. Ability to run existing standard tools (e.g. GAP, ProE, NetSim, Toolkit, Intellution, Citect, AutoCad, MatlLab, Simulink)
- Effective written and verbal communication skills; learning technical writing skills (procedures, reports, etc.).
- Basic written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Basic skills in problem solving and troubleshooting.
- Competent in the use of PCs and associated software.
- Basic knowledge of appropriate WISE applications such as BOM, Item Master, NCR, Warranty, EC screens and part tracking.
- Ability to understand and interpret industry and Woodward technical standards including quality system standards and PLC process.
- Basic understanding of component function and testing. Learning manufacturing processes, drawings and standards.
- Recognizes problems that are beyond capabilities and seeks out appropriate experts and tools.
Qualification
- Bachelor's Degree/Diploma in Engineering (Electronics, Mechanical, Mechatronics)
- 3 years’ working experience in the Oil & Gas, petrochemical or marine industry preferred.
- Knowledge in Woodward, ITCC, Prime Movers’ control is an added advantage.
- Good knowledge in designing mechanical structure to support equipment used in the project is preferred.
