Senior Manager, Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS)

Reporting to the Head, Group EHS, you will take a key role in supporting the delivery of the STT GDC EHS strategy, and overseeing and managing EHS across the construction and data centre (DC) operation portfolios as part of the Group EHS function. Key responsibilities include overseeing organisational compliance, reporting and EHS performance of the businesses and operations and ensuring alignment with STT GDC's Group Minimum Standards (GMS) and industry best practice standards. You are expected to work in collaboration with cross-border teams to identify key EHS gaps/challenges in the areas of design, construction and operations to address related risks and opportunities, and review and recommend processes and procedures for implementation to improve EHS governance, structure and performance. This includes identifying and addressing EHS training needs to ensure competence within the businesses.

  • Provide support to the Head, Group EHS in the development of the Group EHS strategy/plan and ensure the execution of these strategies/plans and performance standards.
  • Provide support to the businesses and Group EHS function in overseeing and managing EHS in design and execution across construction projects and DC operations in the various portfolios to drive positive EHS outcomes.
  • Work with the businesses to create functional strategies and specific EHS objectives and streamlined processes and procedures to support the EHS functional infrastructure within the countries.
  • Guide and support all construction and DC operation teams in the establishment and implementation of a robust EHS Management System in alignment with STT GDC Group EHS framework.
  • Establish and implement a robust EHS assurance plan specific to the respective businesses, ensuring GMS performance standards and controls are effectively implemented. Ensure assessments/audits for compliance are conducted in accordance with Group EHS Assurance Plan at agreed intervals.
  • Support construction projects/DC operations in the review of (i) EHS and application of GMS for new developments from design through delivery phase and operation; and (ii) current EHS standards and practices against GMS, and where gaps exist, development of action plans to ensure compliance.
  • Monitor EHS performance to identify emerging issues and trends and engage with BU/construction/operational leaders to develop and implement improvement plans where required.
  • Ensure effective implementation of the Group Incident Management Standards, all statutory reporting, investigation protocols and record of such incidents in compliance with GMS/Group standards and statutory requirements.
  • Work in collaboration with the businesses and/or construction projects/DC operations to develop, establish and maintain risk profiles, and design/lead programmes, improvement plans and innovative work processes towards achieving best-in-class EHS standards.
  • Facilitate the collation and sharing of EHS knowledge, lessons learned (including from incidents) and leading practices to provide for continual improvement.
  • Keep abreast of the EHS best-practice landscape and where appropriate, make recommendations.
  • Support the development and roll-out of EHS awareness campaigns for promoting the Culture of Safety within the various businesses.
  • Provide support and expertise in the establishment and maintenance of an EHS Competency Framework in accordance with training needs identified for the businesses.
  • Address change management and adapt EHS plans to ensure fit-for-purpose response as a result of alterations to EHS legislation or industry standards, alerts or changes to organisational structures or arrangements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in EHS-related, Construction Management, Engineering, Technology or related field.
  • Recognised EHS-related professional certification and/or accreditation.
  • Minimum 10 years of working experience in managing EHS in design and construction. Possess EHS experience in asset-related field as part of portfolio is advantageous.
  • Knowledge and experience in the field of EHS management (engineering/construction, asset management), preferably in the DC environment.
  • Knowledge of international EHS standards and best practices.
  • Experienced in the development and roll-out of EHS management systems and programs, with knowledge of safety system analysis and proficiency in conducting data analysis and reporting leading and lagging statistical indicators.
  • Experienced in promoting and driving EHS culture across businesses and projects/assets, in particular a transparent reporting culture.
  • Experience in communicating with statutory authorities and industry bodies, in particular regard to EHS matters and governance.
  • Able to manage EHS outcomes across several different challenging geographies/countries.
