Job Description

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the National University of Singapore (NUS) invites applications for Research Fellow position in Hydrological and Ecological Observatories to begin as soon as possible.

The newly launched “Coastal Protection and Flood Resilience Institute (CFI) Singapore” is expecting to conduct research to enhance our understanding of convective rainfall patterns in the tropics, their modifications due to climate change and urbanization, as well as how a new rainfall regime might affect runoff production and flood risk. This research will be supported by extensive hydrological observations including a new network that can measure precipitation at a super high spatial frequency and the establishment of experimental catchments to study runoff formation process and hydrological response in tropical soils.

The selected candidate will be

• Responsible for establishing the field sites, conducting and coordinating the hydrological observations, collaborating with other researchers on the scientific tasks of the project, as well as reinforcing the liaisons with industr partners and local agencies.

• Expected to act as project coordinator for two major projects and lead outreach and reporting activities. In this regard, previous proven experience of environmental consultancy and scientific project coordinators are fundamental pre-requisite.

• Besides contributing to the research activities of the projects, the successful applicant is expected to support in a broader sense the research of the Ecohydrology and Hydroinformatics groups at NUS, thereby providing occasional support to graduate and undergraduate students.

Job Requirements

• Possess a PhD degree in Environmental Science or Civil/Environmental Engineering or other related disciplines.
• Previous multi-year experience with scientific project coordination.
• Capability to establish links with industry and non-academic partners.
• Previous experience with environmental projects in the Singapore context.

• Open to fixed-term contract (12 months)

Note: Applications should include in a single .pdf file: (i) a motivation letter, (ii) a detailed Curriculum Vitae including a list of publications, and (iii) contacts of 2 to 3 reference persons.
