Position: Kitchen Assistant
Job Description
- Assist in a wide range of kitchen operations.
- Prepare food ingredients and food items according to recipes.
- Clean, peel, and chop vegetables and marinate, season, and coat food items as instructed
- Empty trash bins and dispose of waste properly
- Ensure all kitchen equipment is in working order and report any issues to the chef or manager
- Minimise the wastage and spoilage of ingredients and other food items.
- Monitor inventory levels of ingredients and supplies, and place orders as needed to avoid shortages
- Manage and maintain the hygiene standards established.
- Maintain strict quality control standards for all food items leaving the kitchen
- Adhere to health and safety regulations and guidelines set by local health agency
- Work closely with service crew and supervisor, to ensure a smooth flow of service and address any customer feedback or concerns
- Foster a positive learning environment and help team members grow in their culinary skills
- Other ad-hoc duties as requested by the Direct Supervisor.
Requirements
- Nitec and above education level; or its equivalent education level
- Prior experience in a similar role, such as a kitchen assistant or food prep role, is often preferred but not always required, especially for entry-level positions
- Possess hygiene certificate (preferred, but not required)
- Able to understand and converse in mandarin and/or English
- Meticulous, organised and hardworking individual
- Understanding of basic food safety and hygiene practices
- Willingness to learn and adapt to different tasks and responsibilities in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
- Ability to work collaboratively with other kitchen staff and support the overall team effort.
- Ability to take instructions and feedback from chefs and supervisors
- Proactive approach to tasks and a willingness to assist wherever needed
- Medically fit for the position
