Position: Kitchen Assistant

Job Description

  • Assist in a wide range of kitchen operations.
  • Prepare food ingredients and food items according to recipes.
  • Clean, peel, and chop vegetables and marinate, season, and coat food items as instructed
  • Empty trash bins and dispose of waste properly
  • Ensure all kitchen equipment is in working order and report any issues to the chef or manager
  • Minimise the wastage and spoilage of ingredients and other food items.
  • Monitor inventory levels of ingredients and supplies, and place orders as needed to avoid shortages
  • Manage and maintain the hygiene standards established.
  • Maintain strict quality control standards for all food items leaving the kitchen
  • Adhere to health and safety regulations and guidelines set by local health agency
  • Work closely with service crew and supervisor, to ensure a smooth flow of service and address any customer feedback or concerns
  • Foster a positive learning environment and help team members grow in their culinary skills
  • Other ad-hoc duties as requested by the Direct Supervisor.

Requirements

  • Nitec and above education level; or its equivalent education level
  • Prior experience in a similar role, such as a kitchen assistant or food prep role, is often preferred but not always required, especially for entry-level positions
  • Possess hygiene certificate (preferred, but not required)
  • Able to understand and converse in mandarin and/or English
  • Meticulous, organised and hardworking individual
  • Understanding of basic food safety and hygiene practices
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to different tasks and responsibilities in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other kitchen staff and support the overall team effort.
  • Ability to take instructions and feedback from chefs and supervisors
  • Proactive approach to tasks and a willingness to assist wherever needed
  • Medically fit for the position
