ROLE SUMMARY
PGS GT&E is seeking a Strategic Partnerships Lead to join a dynamic and purpose-driven team. The scope of the role will mainly support the Small Molecule Team based in Singapore to build external relationships with potential academic and commercial partners primarily as well as negotiating and executing transactions in the innovative and collaborative manufacturing research space within PIPS, which is a precompetitive collaboration on innovative manufacturing technologies between pharmaceutical industry leaders and the academic institutions in Singapore.
The ideal candidate will bring in experience of leading and executing transactions and building relationships with current and potential partners, pressure testing the business case for deals, driving to consensus on go/no-go decisions, bringing deal teams together and aligning them on a common goal, making appropriate risk/benefit trade-offs, and executing from first partner interaction to deal closing and beyond. The role will also be responsible for upskilling talents with necessary skillsets which should be tailored to match organizational needs and building a resilient and high-performance team in the organization.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
The ideal candidate will:
- Draft, negotiate, and lead the execution of research, collaboration and licensing legal agreements and transactions.
- Evaluate inventions for intellectual property potential, develop IP protection strategies for inventions retained by Pfizer and implement appropriate IP protection, i.e., patent applications, copyrights, trademarks, etc. in consultation with licensing staff, inventors, and IP counsel.
- Partner with the relevant GT&E colleagues and leaders to understand the group’s strategies and priorities; provide input from the external landscape; advise on strategic partnership opportunities and set-ups.
- Establish strong working relationships with cross functional stakeholders from research, technology, program management, legal and finance.
- Manage and streamline collaborations governance process and ensure compliance with corporate procedure; establish process and timelines to manage execution of cross-border partnership in a timely manner
- Build and manage collaborative relationships, knowledgeably represent Pfizer in discussions with current and potential partners or other external audiences from research institutes or companies; exceptional focus and engagement to collaborate effectively across multiple time zones.
- Develop and coach talents by evaluating skill gaps and providing or identifying training programs.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- The ideal candidate will have an advanced Medical or Scientific Degree (MD or PhD) in a scientific discipline, legal degree (JD) and/or business degree (MBA). A bachelor’s degree required, with a preference for a bachelor’s in biology, chemistry, or a relevant technical discipline.
- Eight or more years of relevant experience in the diagnostic, biotech or pharmaceutical industry, including experience leading or supporting collaboration, licensing, partnership, M&A, or other relevant transactions
- Strong relationship building skills and negotiation capabilities; agile, with the ability to persuade/influence and effectively gain agreement/consensus
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability in intellectual property, budget, and project management
- Candidate demonstrates a breadth of diverse leadership experiences and capabilities in global matrix organizations including: the ability to develop, coach, and upskill others, oversee and guide the work of other colleagues to achieve meaningful outcomes and create business impact.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Ability to manage multiple agreement negotiations concurrently and deliver quality results within tight time constraints
- A strong track record of presenting the business and scientific case of deal opportunities to cross-functional leaders
- Demonstrated sound business judgment and financial/business acumen to ensure that the thinking and recommendations are in the best interests of the enterprise
- A strong presence and interpersonal skills to operate/interact effectively with key Executive-level audiences when needed; demonstrated success working closely with, advising, and presenting to senior leaders on business development and/or strategy
