A tech project manager is a professional who oversees the planning, execution and delivery of technical projects, such as software development, IT infrastructure, data analysis, etc. A tech project manager needs to have a combination of technical, managerial and interpersonal skills and is responsible for the JD as follows.
Job Description:
- Coordinate internal and external resources, such as developers, testers, designers, vendors, etc.
- Define the software project scope, objectives, deliverables, milestones and budget
- Develop and maintain a detailed project plan and schedule to ensure they are completed on time, meeting requirements and within allocated budget
- Monitor and track the project progress and performance
- Communicate and report the project status and issues to stakeholders and management
- Maintain project issue register to keep close match of the project issues till their resolution
- Manage the project risks, changes and quality
- Ensure the project meets the customer expectations and requirements
- Manage software project lifecycle, from requirements to implementation, training, and documentation
- Ensure proper approval and communication with proof of record before proceeding with any out-of-scope items (including new requirements, change request)
- Preparation of reports (status report, project sign off, burndown chats, estimations, etc.)
- Undertake IT projects assigned by the business when needs arise
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems / Technology or a related field
- Have relevant certifications, such as Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified Scrum Master (CSM), etc.
- Have a combination of technical, managerial and interpersonal skills
- Have knowledge and experience in various technical domains, such as programming languages, software engineering, DevOps, data science, cloud computing, etc.
- Familiarity with different project management methodologies, such as agile, waterfall, scrum, etc.
- Ability to use project management tools and software, such as Microsoft Project, Jira, Trello, etc.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Excellent communication, presentation and negotiation skills
- Leadership, teamwork and collaboration skills
- Customer-oriented and result-driven mindset, with sense of urgency and positive attitude
- Creativity and innovation skills
- Able to multitask, plan and work independently and under pressure
