About the role
The Market Analysis team reports to the Commercial Product Group (Copper) and is responsible for generating short- and medium-term market insights (today to 5 years) including supply and competitor analysis; demand forecasts including those for downstream sectors; trading support; and price forecasting using all manner of techniques. The team focus is to leverage these insights and analysis to support Commercial decision-making and generate value across Sales & Marketing, Procurement, and Marine & Logistics. The Market Analysis team also provides short- and medium-term market context and commodity price forecasts to the broader Group.
We are looking for a Principal Analyst to focus on copper and related by-products supply, cost curves, and competitor analysis. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Copper & By-products, you will be:
- Maintain, develop, and validate global and regional supply models for copper mines, smelters, and refineries. Create models where needed and maintain or improve existing models. Work with the marketing team and the broader commercial team to prioritize areas of focus.
- Contribute to longer-term supply discussion and trends, and value-in-use analysis.
- Maintain and develop tracking metrics to provide leading indicators for short-medium term supply over the 0-3 year time horizon, as well as longer term.
- Monitor competitors' stated strategies and objectives – collaboration required with the wider commercial team; develop a deep understanding of competitor supply costs.
- Ownership and maintenance production forecasts (mine, smelter, and refinery) and cost analysis in the global cost models.
- Consolidate regional intel to identify competitive customer portfolios.
- Monitor and track trade flows. Import/export data is a key information source of competitive activity. Maintain the existing database and attempt to improve data sources.
- What you will need for the role
To succeed in this role, you will have:
- University degree in either a technical or commercial discipline.
- Minimum 6 years of relevant experience within a commodity-focused MNC.
- Demonstrated and deep understanding of Copper supply chains.
- Managing, maintaining, and redesigning complex Excel models.
- A strong industry network, as well as maintaining and expanding such, is essential for the success of this position.
- Automated data visualization reports in Power BI.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills (English) are essential.
- Proficiency - verbal and written in a second language such as Chinese or Spanish.
