Job Title: Database Engineer, Senior
Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Database Engineer to join our team. The Database Engineer will handle complex projects, apply specialized knowledge in database administration, and make decisions on ambiguous administrative and support issues. They will be responsible for implementing database improvements, providing technical guidance to other IT staff, and ensuring database integrity and security. The position may require on-call availability for standby support.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor database performance and usage, including response times.
- Supervise maintenance activities such as backup, optimization, re-indexing, recovery procedures, and troubleshooting.
- Collaborate with technical, applications, and operational staff to ensure database integrity and security.
- Design and implement summary or aggregation tables to support data analysis.
- Determine short- and long-term database requirements.
- Manage database report production.
- Advise senior leaders on database concepts and functional capabilities.
- Provide technical guidance for database installation, setup, and configuration.
- Interpret business issues and recommend solutions and best practices.
- Implement secure and controlled access to databases.
- Lead the development of new databases based on business requirements.
- Design and enforce security and data integrity controls.
- Conduct testing and define maintenance procedures for new databases.
- Analyze database usage to identify enhancement needs.
- Drive research initiatives for advanced and automated database administration approaches.
- Optimize database performance with a focus on availability, reliability, scalability, and security.
- Conduct regular audits and maintenance to ensure database stability and capacity.
- Develop automated processes for measuring and reporting service quality.
- Assess risks to databases and provide advisory support.
- Investigate and resolve complex database issues.
- Provide escalation support and 24/7 on-call assistance for user issues.
Requirements / Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 plus years of experience in relevant position in database.
- Proven experience in developing, implementing, and maintaining IT systems.
- Strong knowledge and skills in database administration.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
- Ability to communicate effectively and maintain high service standards.
- Experience with database performance optimization and automation.
- Familiarity with database security and data integrity controls.
- Knowledge of industry best practices and emerging trends in database management.
