Job Description
Professor Lee Soo Chin’s laboratory focuses on novel therapeutics and predictive biomarkers in breast cancer. She has studied different novel treatment strategies, including using low-dose anti-angiogenic agent to improve chemotherapy delivery. Her team has identified a biomarker detectable in blood that predicts breast cancer recurrence, and that can be used to select patients for a novel targeted therapy.
As a Research Assistant, you will be supporting Prof Lee and Researchers in research projects, maintenance of laboratory inventory and administration. You will be required to carry out laboratory-based scientific investigations, analyse samples, conduct experiments, and record the findings.
Job Description
Research
- To help in carrying out assigned Molecular Biology and Cellular Biology experiments such asPlasmid cloning and PCR
Genetic manipulation experiments in cells using lentiviruses or CRISPR-Cas9 system
Harvest protein, RNA, or DNA from tissue, cell lines, and bacteria
Measure protein or RNA level changes by Western blot, immunostaining, qRT-PCR
Monitor changes cellular phenotypes by fluorescent microscopy and flow cytometry
Long term tissue culture
Processing of patient blood and tissue samples
Protein production and purification
- Collecting, receiving, labelling, and/or analysing samples using the correct testing equipment, when necessary
- Designing and executing laboratory testing in line with standard testing procedures, recording observations, and interpreting findings
- Recording all experimental data and test results accurately
Administrative
- Organizing and storing all chemical substances, fluids, and compressed gases according to safety instructions
- Ensuring that safety guidelines are always adhered to within the laboratory
- Maintaining daily logs and equipment record books
- Cleaning, sterilizing, maintaining, and calibrating laboratory equipment
- Procurement of laboratory supplies and consumable
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Life Sciences, or a related field
- Comfortable handling potentially hazardous substances and chemicals (flammable liquids, biohazards etc)
- Knowledge of QHSE management systems, preventative measures, and laboratory best practices
- Usage of Microsoft Office Suite and database systems
