Position Overview:
We're in search of an enthusiastic and seasoned Lead Sustainability Officer to become an integral part of our tribe. As a key navigator steering our ship, you'll champion our sustainability initiatives, empowering our team to craft an ecosystem of environmental, social, and economic responsibility. Your role? Take the helm by developing innovative strategies, orchestrating projects, uniting stakeholders, and amplifying our sustainability journey, resonating beyond our sun-soaked office walls.
Duties:
Thought-Leadership and Social Media Management: Spearhead the organization's thought leadership in sustainability by developing and executing a robust social media strategy. Cultivate the company's online presence as a leader in sustainable practices, sharing insights, success stories, and relevant industry updates.
Business Development and Customer Relations: Engage with potential customers, industry partners, and stakeholders to showcase the organization's sustainability initiatives. Lead discussions, presentations, and negotiations to secure partnerships and contracts that align with sustainability goals.
Consultant Oversight: Manage and oversee all consultants engaged by the organization in sustainability projects. Provide guidance, direction, and ensure alignment with project objectives and quality standards.
Funding Management and Client Support: Stay updated on funding opportunities, grants, and incentives related to sustainability. Advise both the organization and clients on available funding options, assisting in securing financial resources for sustainability projects. Provide guidance to clients on tapping into available funding for their sustainability initiatives.
Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with internal teams, external partners, NGOs, government agencies, and communities to drive sustainable practices. Engage potential customers, lead discussions, and negotiate partnerships aligning with sustainability goals.
Innovation, Research, and Project Management: Stay updated on emerging trends, technologies, and best practices. Manage projects from conception to implementation, ensuring alignment with sustainability objectives.
Budgeting and Funding: Collaborate with finance and procurement teams to manage budgets, seek funding opportunities for sustainability projects, and assess ROI for sustainable initiatives.
Risk Assessment: Conduct risk assessments to identify potential environmental, social, and economic risks and develop mitigation strategies.
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR): Lead CSR initiatives, ensuring the company fulfils its commitments to social and environmental responsibility.
Requirements:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Business Administration, or a related field.
Proven minimum 3 years’ experience in a leadership role focusing on sustainability.
In-depth knowledge of environmental regulations, sustainability frameworks (e.g., UN SDGs), and industry best practices.
Strong project management skills with the ability to drive initiatives from conception to implementation.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage stakeholders at all levels.
Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data, measure impact, and drive evidence-based decision-making.
Demonstrated experience in leveraging social media platforms for thought leadership and brand building.
Proven track record in business development, sales, or client relationship management within the sustainability sector.
Experience in managing external consultants or vendor relationships.
Strong understanding of funding mechanisms, grants, and financial instruments related to sustainability projects.
Ability to network effectively and establish partnerships to secure funding and drive business opportunities.
Certification in sustainability (e.g., GRI, SCMC, etc.) is advantageous.
