Responsibilities:
- Ensure that the nursing workforce are prepared and professionally developed to deliver contemporary standards of health care across all services and departments where they are deployed
- Develop effective professional leadership amongst nursing staff and the establishment of a culture of ownership, responsibility and accountability for, and pride in, the quality and standards of services provided at every level, and to prepare them for increased devolution of responsibility and accountability towards the front line
- Responsible for nursing strategy and practice in relation to Policy/Protocol/Procedural guidance and the development of clinical nursing standards that are research and evidence based
- Responsible for ensuring standardized practice is established, where appropriate, in support of delivery of reliable, safe and effective care
- Communicate professional nursing issues to all relevant staff, including Clinical Directors and Managers
- Provide consultation on all policy/planning issues affecting nursing
- Provide disciplinary advice relating to professional nursing issues and nursing appeals
- Involve with professional targets and professional performance review
- Serve as a hospital lead contact with external based organizations for identifying any emerging or new evidence based improvements for nursing services
- Provide leadership and supervision to the nursing department
- Monitor nursing activity, communicate change, conduct performance evaluations and disciplines staff as needed
- Perform other duties as requested
Requirements:
- Qualified Registered Nurse with current SNB Registration
- Post-basic certificate / Advanced Diploma in a Nursing specialty
- Degree in health related subject or equivalent
- Preferably a Master Degree in Health related subject or equivalent (or working towards)
- Minimum of 10 years progressive clinical and administrative acute care experience
- 3 years in the role of Assistant Director of Nursing of a medium to large size acute care hospital
- Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) is preferred
- Evidence of continued professional development
- Detailed knowledge and understanding of current issues in nursing
- Good understanding of principles and practices to deliver reliable and safe services
- Experience of successfully leading and managing a diverse team
- Proven project management skills, with evidence of delivering large scale projects
- Demonstrable experience of leading and effectively managing change in large complex environments
- Exceptional communication, interpersonal and influencing skills, with the ability to motivate teams
- Excellent leadership and analytical skills
