JOB RESPONSIBILITES
- Exhibition Research, Development, and Planning
The Senior Manager will play a major role in the delivery of engaging and accessible exhibitions. Alongside the other members of the Exhibitions team – Exhibition Producers, Curators, Registrars and Designers – the Senior Manager will oversee exhibitions from concept to project completion. The post-holder will ensure that the management, presentation and ongoing requirements of each project meet best practice as well as international standards and reflect the vision of the museum. The Senior Manager will also research potential exhibitions and partners nationally and internationally and work with the Administrator to plan for periodic exhibition reviews.
- Exhibition Management
The Senior Manager will work closely with the Director, Programmes, Exhibitions and Museum Services, and the Producers and Curators on the contracts for each exhibition, the budgets, and project deadlines ensuring that exhibition delivery timelines are carefully managed, and that exhibition design meets expectations. The Senior Manager will work with the Producers and Curators, as well as the Registrars, and Conservators to ensure that artwork and artefact selection, transport, installation, and return is carried out with great care and to the highest standards. The Senior Manager will also ensure that Marina Bay Sands’ legal policies and compliance procedures are met.
- Budgeting and Financial Management
The Senior Manager will play a key role in managing the department’s budget, in close liaison with the Director. This will involve ensuring Producers and Curators develop sound P&L plans for each exhibition and set realistic revenue targets. The Senior Manager will be alert to new areas of business for the department, including partnerships and sponsorship.
- Staff Management
The Senior Manager will have line management responsibility for several team members. This will involve regular line management meetings, project-related advice, mentoring, management of performance reviews, and identifying learning and development opportunities. The Senior Manager will be conscious of the well-being of their team, ensuring that team members balance work and life commitments.
The Senior Manager will also assist the Director, Programmes, Exhibitions and Museum Services on planning staff for each exhibition and programme ensuring that the team members are allocated appropriate projects, that best make use of their skills, and provide development opportunities.
- Collaboration across ArtScience Museum and Marina Bay Sands
The Senior Manager will work closely with other Senior Managers ensuring that teams are communicating on key matters. The postholder will also liaise closely with members of ArtScience Musuem’s Business Development and Visitor Experience teams and will work collaboratively and openly across Marina Bay Sands, including liaising with Marketing, Communications, Legal, Compliance, Finance, Procurement and other departments when applicable.
The Senior Manager must have a willingness to work flexibly and be able to work in the evenings and at weekends as and when necessary.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Essential
- At least 5 years of professional experience and a strong track record of achievement in museums, galleries, science centres or other exhibition venues
- A strong interest in the subjects ArtScience Museum is engaged in, and a curiosity about the fields of art, science, technology and culture.
- Experience of managing and delivering exhibitions including exhibition design and installation, design and build contractors, couriers, conservators and registrars.
- Proven experience of managing projects and timelines with successful outcomes
- Proven experience of managing budgets
- Proven experience of managing people, staff development and team building
- Proven experience of working in partnership with stakeholders and other organisations.
- A working knowledge of museum standards and workplace safety and health.
- Willingness to work to a flexible schedule.
