Social Worker

Singapore Anti-narcotics Association

SANA Step-Up Centre is a walk-in facility in the community. We support long-term recovery and reintegration for ex-drug offenders and their families through a variety of programmes and services. Aside from working with clients and their families, he or she will be expected to work closely with other stakeholders and other community resources to support and coordinate social support services for offenders’ families and support preventive drug education and community engagement.


Responsibilities:

1. Clinical Work – Conduct intake assessments, case planning and intervention for walk-in and referral cases. To also conduct group work for existing programmes (e.g., support group, family engagement activities, etc.).

2. Programme Work – Actively participate in the process of research, planning, implementation and evaluation for programmes to reduce drug-taking behavior in the community (e.g., client programmes, outreach programmes, etc.).

3. Operations – Work independently and in a team to meet operational functions at SANA Step-Up Centres. Be diligent in completing administrative tasks. Able to work on 1 weekday night per week and some Saturdays when required.

4. Community Engagement

- Coordination with grassroots organisations, government departments and social service organisations

- Liasing with volunteers in relation to programme execution

- Provide guidance and support to the grassroots volunteers

- Assist in drawing up and implementing training program for the volunteers


Technical Competencies:

1. Minimum a degree in Social Work, Psychology or Counselling

2. Fresh graduates are welcome

3. Ability to relate with ex-offenders and their families would be an added advantage


Core Competencies:

1. Good team player and pleasant disposition

2. Strong conceptual, managerial and organizational abilities

3. Good interpersonal, communication and writing skills

4. Mature, Independent and positive work attitude


Preferred achievements / characteristics:

1. Good understanding of the principles and roles of drug addiction and the process of change

2. Proficient in speaking mandarin / malay

3. Willing to work outside normal working hours and on weekends, when necessary

4. Candidates with experience working with volunteers would be an added advantage
